    Thats the usual suspect. Replace with genuine LR & check the surface of the throttle body plate as they have a tendency to leak again PDQ.

    Cheers for this. Much appreciated. Think i might go for a standard re-fill then another refill as you say. Changed the gearbox fluid & filter in my old P38 3 times (every 24k) so hoping it's not much more involved, seems to be a similar procedure. ;)

    I was quoted £240 for the gearbox flush with upgraded metal sump pan & dr tranny. Still toying with just changing the oil though. Can't see the link for the gearbox oil?

    I'll be blanking my EGR's when they fail, being an 06 should be straightforward. +1 on @gstuart comment on the oil pump. Not to put the fear up you but the 07 models are the worst for oil pump casing failing & sending your timing belt off on a journey of destruction. Just had 2 x front wheel...

    PS, did you trim the small V sections on the end seals? I found them too big for the notch between the head & block & lifted the valley gasket making fitting the upper intake 'fun'. I imaging there would be plenty of force on the rubber as you tighten the intake down & possibly split it. The...

    Wow! Are the metal clamps ok & not deformed? Is it 20Nm from memory, but i just used to nip mine up but ran a thin bead of RTV on the underside of the gasket as well as the notches.

    The 4.0l also uses the same gearbox doesn't it? Just think that risking all that work to put in a stock Rover V8 could all end in tears & misery, but thats just my experience. Think the Overfinch P38 use the 6.2 chevy :)

    +1 a Rover 4.0/4.6 is a big gamble especially with all the work involved with converting. I'd imagine most donor P38 V8's on the verge of scrapping are due to engine troubles anyway.

    I've read somewhere that wrapping can cause the manifolds to crack due to localising heat? I never had a problem getting my heatshields off though - never had time to rust before taking apart again! :(

    The badge thing was a joke, missed on you it seems. Have tried to help & suggest this particular model is realistically out of your budget but ok, you trot on & get your 'Range Rover with TV headrests'. What to be wary of? I'd say look in the mirror, that should keep you busy for some time.
