    Sourcing canvas

Just put on the canvas tilt after two years. It’s around 30 years old and apart from a frayed hole and loose brass stud it’s in perfect condition. I treated it with Fabsil, a bit smelly but does the job. That’s crap if they rot after a couple of years.

Took half a day to change to canvas. Still glorious weather so far. It was easier because the hardtop fixings are new.

    Marine Blue Paint

What a b’stard of a job getting the hardtop off. Hadn’t been off since 1983. I got the tilt in 2007 when I bought a donor S3 petrol SWB. Got it for nothing. With loads of time just now I’m going to put the tilt on this spring. Should be quicker this time as no siezed bolts etc.

    Marine Blue Paint

I have changed my phone recently but I’ve lost my photos of my S3 in the heatwave of 2017 with its canvas tilt which looks same as your photo! I’ll see if I can get it.

    Marine Blue Paint

I kinda know what you mean it’s the red tone. I prefer traditional colours. My second landy was marine blue and it was an S3. In fact underneath the Masai red is MB!

    Marine Blue Paint

Well it’s just not a colour I like each to their own.

That’s interesting feedback. I want to go back to MN from hideous Masai Red.

Misfire sorted in 2.25 petrol Series 3

Every 3 years or so I change the points, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, HT leads and the coil. Total cost is around £50.00 and well worth it. You can do all that yourself and more (fan belt, cleaning the air filter, change the solenoid). Basic servicing will keep it running well. If you buy...

Series 3 Series 3 Suspension Ubolts.

Get the metric ones if you can. Careful torquing them it’s easy to strip the threads.

oil leaking out of half shaft

A half inch short socket extension fits the drain plug. It shouldn’t be too tight to unscrew with a standard socket wrench unless it’s been put in wrongly and is threaded.

    New 109 owner!

It’s very different from a Defender; basic 1950’s era engineering and all fixable. As ex MoD it’s a wee bit non standard but that’s not a problem. My first landy aged 23 was LWB S2. What a tank. I kept it for a year before buying an S3 SWB . Bought the 109 for £450, put new spark plugs in and...

    MOT requirements - lights??

X1 on if they are there they must work. Reverse light is non standard but fog light at the rear is standard. So, you can strip out to the minimum requirements. One thing I did on my 83’ County SWB was to remove the silly wee repeater indicators on the O/S wings - who needs them? If you want to...

Series 3 Heater Fan/Hamster Wheel removal

You need to get the grub screw out. I fu cked around for days nearly destroyed the whole thing until I figured out the grub screw, after that it eased off quickly. I have a contact who can supply new snail housing powered coated paint. It fitted perfect and was reasonably priced. I remounted the...

    Front Brakes

Craddocks do complete kits. 1980 was the year the front brake spec changed, make sure you order the correct kit. Hope the backing plate is okay cos they’re like hens teeth and cost.

What mirrors should be on my Series 3 1975

Late into this post. What door hinges do you have? I had a ‘75 SWB half a lifetime ago and it had Wong mirrors rather than door mounted. I think it’s an open point. Personally I think door mounted is better from a practical side.
