Datatek, forgot to ask.. Where will I find that aerial? I have already tried zapping the fob near the pattern on the O/S/R window. Sorry, I see you replied about the Synchmate. Sounds like a Nano. I'll put the word around the family... 70th Birthday soon!!

Tried Dan's EKA procedure and Dt's lock synching. No recovery. I guess those few starts must have been a fluke. That RF business sounds plausible. The house's router Wi Fi router is about 20 ft away. I'll try again with it switched off tomorrow, Can't think of any other source. When the car...

Thanks Datatek. Yes, new battery arrived yesterday and has been on charge for at least 24 hours before fitting, it is the one you recommended - lovely looking thing! For that brief interlude of starting just now it worked with either key, no problem. I take that to mean that the keys...

Surprising turn of events...... Stopped for a cuppa, a think and to make my last post. Returned to the car - which was unlocked. inserted key and message 'alarm fault' but went on to ign on and to start position. It started right away! Ran fine. Repeated the exercise...

New battery arrived - wonderful service! Fitted this morning but still no go. The old battery still had power in it after a week which tends to indicate that the cause of the drain has been rectified. Cleaned the key slot with switch cleaner and canned air. all sorts of crud came out of it...

Thanks Pete & Dan. In ignition that doesn't work but will try the door. The good news is that the new battery, MF 31-1000 per Datatek's recommendation, has just arrived and will go on charge now. Also obtained some contact cleaner and 'canned air.' Weather rough here at present so work...

No choice mate I have an 'engine disabled' message on the current scene.

Is anyone else watching this? I think that I keep seeing a P38 in the car park at the school and passing the flat. Does it have a part in the story or am I just being an anorak?

That's an interesting idea Dan. Battery ordered, arrives Thursday. Under a oner indeed - £99.31. In work tomorrow but sounds like a Saturday morning job to me. Will keep you posted.

Thanks Marjon, I'd forgotten about the 'bonnet open' thing. I'll try putting it on charge with the bonnet closed and miss out the jump leads. Car is 2001 regd but most bits seem to be 2000.

Thanks Datatek. I had noticed that the key in and out movement has been different for a couple of weeks now, e.g. no firm 'click' when the key is withdrawn. I'll grab some contact cleaner tomorrow and try out. You're right that it is not asking for EKA. TBH If I can get away with this for...

I told 'The Duchess' (our P38) that our recent changes were for the best "Let the Freelander do the hard work," I said "You can just enjoy the new level of TLC we're giving you." Didn't work. In typically petulant fashion the old girl is now stuck on the drive, not going anywhere. I...

P38A Tempus Fugit (Even in the Landy Zone!)

My understanding is that the ISOFIX base needs the ISOFIX anchorage points fixed to the floor and P38 just doesn't have those. We tried the Maxi-Cosi non-ISOFIX seat (i.e. restrained by the rear seat belts.) but I wasn't happy with that system at all. In my day, in-car child safety...

Tomcat, that would have been my response too but I'm much less confrontational in my old age! I call it a win - win. The P38 gets a new level of TLC and I have 2 Land Rovers to play with. I say that if Primark tried to make a P38 then the FL2 is what they'd come up with! 322 wasn't really...

P38A Tempus Fugit (Even in the Landy Zone!)

It all started with a post about not being able to get a good fit for a baby seat in the rear of our P38. Never did manage to do it and family talk turned to the idea that after 6 years ownership, maybe grandad would be better off with a more modern car. Next we tried fitting the baby seat to...

P38A A fool and his money.....

As if to prove that nothing's changed........ One of the younger lads in our circle was reporting on his night out at a Swansea nightclub (pre-lockdown) "This girl kept asking me for my phone number. I said 'Have you got a pen?' 'Yes' she replied. 'Well you'd better get...

P38A A fool and his money.....

Tomcat raises a fair point - That you've proved it is electrical and not air. My experience was the problem was indeed electrical, but because of a crap motor in the compressor I bought. By refurbing the original component all was well immediately. That tends to prove the essence of the...
