Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

He was approaching a driveway on his side of the road (that is the tarmac he is standing on) and turned in to let a large lorry past that was coming the other way. The driveway was quite narrow and his mistake was to turn off onto the grass before the tarmac in order to give himself more room...

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

Yeah, no chance either of us would need a recovery driving around the Outer Hebrides..........:D Fortunately, unlike my D2, my son's D90 has excellent recovery points on the front and it was a matter of seconds to pull him out. This happened just outside Benbecula when he gave a little too much...

Nice one. Four of those and you will be well set.

Careful offering up the tent. If it really weighs 88Kg lifting it securely to more than roof height will not be easy. If you know someone with a forklift, it might be time to buy them a beer.

2 is too few IMHO even for road use. If you are planning on going off road or anywhere that might induce a sway from side to side, then I would say 3 is too few.

How many bars are you going for and how are you attaching them to the tent?

Series 2 Anyone fitted a roof tent

The Bundutop tent itself is fine in very strong winds. I have used it in a gale of over 35 knots (Force 8 Gale) and it was totally stable with no flapping whatsoever (unlike most roof top tents). The main issue would be the car being blown over, and in anything stronger than about 40 knots I...

Series 2 Anyone fitted a roof tent

That looks like a really nice tent, but I'm not sure that the claim of lightweight applies at 88 Kg! Is it really that heavy? I have a Bundutop which I thought with a solid aluminium case was about as heavy as they get - and that is only 64 Kg. Mine is fixed to the D2 with 4x Flatdog bars...

I also recommend grip tape on ladder rungs. I have heard of people slipping on those in the middle of the night and breaking their leg miles from anywhere.

If you are going to fit Dixon sliders I recommend the "Fatties" as they make a much better step. Take a look at the final photo in post #4722 to see mine. I also suggest using skateboard grip tape as they all get really slippery in muddy boots and you can bark your shin very easily. It also...

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Just fitted an Ostrich Wing awning and well pleased with it. I have been scratching my head for a while as to how to fit an awning as I don't have a roof rack to fit one to. As the Bundutop tent takes up the entire roof and would leave no space on a roof rack, it was lighter, cheaper and made...

    Discovery 2 Td5 Oil

As above. The TD5 was a Land Rover engine designed from the outset to cope with a wide range of conditions and treatment. Meet the spec and viscosity and you won't go far wrong if you change it frequently. OTOH well worth buying decent quality filters.

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

Nothing yet. I sent him a written message, but they are busy guys and it will probably take a while to get a response. I'm not in a rush. We will be touring the Outer Hebrides this summer and other than the occasional campsite it will be 99.9% on road.

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

Thanks. Shame Craddock provide no information on it, nor can I find any other reference or review on the net. That looks like the sort of thing I'm after, but there is a difference between a towing eye and a recovery point. Think I might give Ian Dixon a ring to see if his standard D2 plate...

Disco 2 Does anyone make a steering guard with recovery points?

My original bumper is in good shape and I'm not yet ready to replace it with an HD one. So forward recovery points are an issue. I carry a cunning device made by Nomad that is designed to go around the front axle, and that should be fine in extremis; but it could damage the original bumper. So...

Carrying fuel in containers - the legality

The key to avoiding that kind of hypocrisy is to properly introduce the Duty Holder principle with clear linkage of authority and responsibility. We have three levels from senior site managers to senior group managers to the CEO. Each individual is legally responsible and accountable for safety...
