They can quite easily. i work on one that has it quite regular.
i was stress testing it to be fair ...... its a long hill. Even my van gets warm up it ....the old set up never moved - should i also mention i dont have a fan on there.......
took it to work today .;.. warmed up nicely within the normal time range.
I do notice that the temp gauge behaviors more like my 19j the propper coolant mix has made the temp gauge more responsive.
Ie under load at max boost up a prolonged hill in 4th the temp gauge goes from its normal...
which engine was it originally ?
are the engine and stat matched ?
borrow a ir thermometor and measure the temperature of the hoses ?
have you seen the waterpump out of the engine ? highly doubt you have broken that its a big lump of steel to break.
Maybe a blockage or airlock somewhere...
ive had the landy out in -28 before in drumtochtry glen - with the 19j in it. .... last night was a fairly benign night of maybe -10 or a little more.......

Possible the radiator and heater matrix froze but the block and pipes aint and thats why the the shortened system "over heated" to steam
antifreeze and tester being bought at lunch
So first cold snap since the rebuild (the bottles of minus 10 rated screenwash in the rear tub were frozen)
and apparently so was my coolant - COCK - there was anti freeze in i know that but obviously the wrong mix.
First sign - my heater never got warm despite the temperature gauge saying -...
my headlining isnt mouldy.... but then it is in the garage*
* the headlining that is ... not the landy.....

They can be quite stuborn.
Hardest bit stripping it down enough to get at it in a CSW ! (and then getting it all to line up on reassembly)
