Please can some one tell me what the minimum height and max height a Defender jack winds from and to?
I am in the market for a jack (see below) and may well buy a bottle jack - but they come in a bunch of different sizes so info would be really helpful - thanks...

So I'm about two and a half months in to Defender ownership and I still haven't got a jack and wheel brace. I knew there wasn't one in the vehicle when I bought it but I did nothing about it!! This past Friday I changed my Freestyle alloys for steels (looks much better) and now using tubes. Then literally on the way home I got the first flat I've had in years...you know where this is going don't you..!!.. So,,,not having a jack etc was self inflicted but the good news is I was only 100m from home. Jumped Mrs ThreeTwo's Mini and went to the workshop to collect trolley jack and tools to sort my mess. Will be getting jack and tools this week..!!..
 
I've got a bottle jack from a discovery, keep an eye out for someone who's breaking one, as for wheel brace I prefer a torque wrench with the correct sized nut
 
You dont undo your wheel nuts with a torque wrench do you ?

I have a 4ft breaker bar for my wheel nuts
 
Most bottle jacks will lift high enough (assuming you lift the axle). You'll need a cradle end to lift safely though, a DIY approach would be to cut the cradle off an axle stand and then pop that over the bottle jack, I'd that makes sense. Handle length is important too, you'll need to make sure it's long enough to protrude from under the Landy.
Best bet is to buy a Disco/RRC one or one from a Merc Sprinter van, or similar.
 
I use a 2 ton screw jack with a long handle - it screws down to quite a small size, and a breaker bar with a deep socket for the nuts. If you're going to do any larger jobs on her, the breaker bar is pretty much an essential tool anyway, unless you have Hulk-like arms.
 
Whatever you do, DON'T bother getting an original Defender jack, Worst bit of crap ever devised.
 
My 90 came with the original screw jack which is utterly useless. The trouble is it lifts the body rather than the axle. This might be fine on a car, but on a Landy with long travel suspension you basically have to tip the car on its side before the wheel comes off the ground. (Also the factory-installed) rear light guards catch on the jack. It's currently stashed at the back of my garage awaiting some eventual use.
I should probably get a bottle jack or something eventually, but for the time being I just carry my trolley jack in the back.
