Drive in 200tdi conversion south west

UPDATE ! I have the 90 booked in for a 200tdi implant in a week - the chap at my local Garage has a defender which I can have the engine from. We went for a drive and runs/pulls well - I am no expert of course but it’s definitely more capable than what’s in it - and it starts instantly which...

    Getting oil off concrete driveway!

Wow loads of options there, thanks landyzone! I’m having the engine swapped out in a week so when it’s at the garage I will have some attempts with some of the above - will start with washing up liquid, think there is some in the kitchen!

    Getting oil off concrete driveway!

Looking for some advice...We are moving from a rented house and my 90 has left it’s “mark” on the driveway. Are there any products that will dissolve the large oil stain?? Or techniques to remove the oil. The next place will be ours, so I will make a gravel section for it to leak all over!

Yes but I wasn’t planning on rebuilding the 200tdi - (hopefully would find one that ran well) I totally get the argument that they are now getting old but I’m sure there are good runners around? as I’m not in any major hurry I can be a bit more choosy.

I believe that it might not be significantly more cost to replace the engine for a 200tdi than to refurbish the 19j

They are all pretty far away ! I found the Steve Parker place when searching - they sell the kits, I wish I had the enthusiasm to do it myself.. but I just wouldn’t enjoy doing it and don’t want an in bits broken Landrover going mouldy on my front lawn, for the next 10 years probably haha

Doing a bit of research for when my 19J engine gives up - it works ok at the mo, takes a bit to start when it’s cold but fine. So I’m looking for place I can leave the 90 and have the engine swapped for a 200TDI all in - there is a place in Norfolk but I’m in Gloucestershire! Bit far to go back...

    Hard to soft

That looks cool - is it like a roll cage? Would it be strong enough to strap things (timber etc) to when the rag top is off?

Slow to start up first thing then fine

Yes a lot are like that, luckily the garage down the road from me specialises in old stuff and land rovers so knows what’s what - they fitted the clutch servo device recently and welded an outrigger on.

Slow to start up first thing then fine

That’s how it should be I imagine ! Ive only had a few diesels in my time but they all fired up without a fuss - Japanese engines mind you !

Slow to start up first thing then fine

It’s going to the garage next week for mot and an oil change so might get them to look at it if it’s not failed too badly ! Sounds like it could be a lot of things causing this - wouldn’t hurt to do everything but would hurt my wallet hehe

Slow to start up first thing then fine

Did try turning over for a couple of seconds then heating after - definitely started quicker than the previous day but will try again tomorrow! It was warmer today

Slow to start up first thing then fine

I have not confirmed they are working..Just changed them for new ones - the previous owner said it’s always been like this for the 6 years they had it ! Didn’t seem to bother him as it always starts in the end, doesn’t seem normal to me, but I read that the old turbo engines can be like this....

Smoke is white/light colour presume un burned fuel

Slow to start up first thing then fine

Yes 19J - I will try this today!

Slow to start up first thing then fine

Starting procedure - turn key to heat plugs - turn over engine - keep it turning over - bit more - nearly there - yey it’s started - cloud of poisonous smoke - off we go ! It takes a long time turning over to get the beast to start, but once it’s going it’s fine, then subsequent starts it will...

Fitting roof rack to pick up !

I think you may be right - I recon ladders would be reasonably easy to fit, I have those spinning ladder bracket things - but loading lengths of wood might be too much for it ! I was considering making it into a hardtop but it’s pretty convenient as a pickup to just throw stuff in the back which...

Fitting roof rack to pick up !

Anyone have any ideas how to fit a roof rack to a 90 pick up that’s got an ifor Williams back on it? I would like to carry a ladder occasionally or long bits of wood...? Any thoughts??

Servo fitting for Stiff clutch knee pain

I have only just got it back so no measuring yet! Suffice to say it’s gone from being like an old Landrover to literally effortless, massive difference - I’ll see if I have a spring weight and a stick kicking around! As far as cost goes it was £400 for the parts and around the same again to fit...
