Other Be careful what yer tow

In the eighties I towed livestock with a Land Rover on a daily basis, often overloaded probably. It takes a bit of time but you learn to notice a snake early and ease off. Cattle of course can move around a bit and the danger situation was when they want to the back of the trailer on a downhill...

    Changing belt

Plenty of belts can be changed with care without locking tools but I've read that the V6 engine definitely needs dedicated tools before replacing the cam belt?

    Disco 1 Replacement Shocks

Thanks for that, I was doing other work but couldn't get the lower mounting bolts loosed at the time. Will have another go to try and fit them. I also found the probable cause of the wallowing today, one rear shock has broken away from its lower mounting so I'll be replacing the rears as well.

    Disco 1 Replacement Shocks

Hi folks, I'm fairly new to Disco ownership though have watched this forum for a few years. I live in N Ireland and bought a nice 98 Tdi auto last year near Kidderminster. It seemed much better than average, 100k miles, excellent original boot floor and generally tidy. I'm a bit of a...

Disco 3 (LR3) Today I'm looking at a Disco 3 2005 with 137,000 miles; is this too high?

I would ask the garage to have a full suspension alignment check done, (and printed) as it's possible the uneven tyre wear may not necessarily be resolved. They could have it done at little cost. I read that the Disco 3 hasn't a great reputation but I know of two long term owners running high...

Disco 1 Trying to track down a strange issue, help!

I also seem to have a very similar drone over 55 mph, but in an auto. I bought mine a couple of months ago but didn't notice anything on a test drive. It also sounds a bit harsh but as yet I can't decide what might be wrong. I don't think it's engine related and there are recent invoices for...

    Disco 1 Seat retrim kits

There are a lot of Discos being broken, might be worth checking out a few first. I took out the rear seats of my old farm workhorse and the covers seem to be easy to remove, I wonder would the bases of the front seats be interchangeable left to right? Someone more knowledgeable on here might...

Wanted, someone close to Sherborne to inspect Disco

I live in Northern Ireland and have been looking for a really good Disco TDI auto. They're hard to find and expensive, I'm even keeping an eye on Japanese imports. There's one advertised on Autotrader which caught my eye, described as being superb. I phoned this morning to discuss and ask for a...

    Disco wheels, can someone identify?

Sorry I haven't been online to reply. A local specialist thought the wheels were German and a rare LR option. A wheel came off last year, luckily it wasn't damaged but my brother had to get new wheel nuts specially made, originals unobtainable. I'll get a photo of the centre in due course...

    Disco wheels, can someone identify?

My brother owns a rather nice Japanese import Disco. I've attached a pic of one of the wheels as we've never seen them on any other vehicle. They seem to be genuine LR items. Two of the centres are now missing, anyone recognise them or got any idea where he could get replacements?

Avoid Buying Discovery 2's from Scotland

I'm from N Ireland and into old cars, the best ones came from southern counties/ London areas, one from Oxford, 2 from Kent, one from Hampshire, Disco from London. Over here they've all rusted out years ago, as have many of the early Discos. I would rate Scotland as having better weather than...

My Adrian Flux/ULR insurance claim woes!

Poppy will have a duty of disclosure to her insurers at renewal. They will want to know of any outstanding claim and will probably amend the no claims discount on the one vehicle involved until all is sorted out. She should then be eligible for a refund of any additional premium paid. As...

    defender insurance

I was an agent for the NFU for over 20 years. We were often seen as expensive but I could justify that based on our personal service and claims handling. I'm now retired but wouldn't consider insuring elsewhere. We had our problems like every other insurer. Total loss values were sometimes...

    Chassis advice :)

I'm a big fan of waste oil. I sprayed my 1998 Xsara annually since new. I'm from Northern Ireland and we have plenty of wet weather, dirty roads, and winter salt. I called on farms so the car was always getting filthy. I pressure washed the car every Autumn, ran it a few weeks to get a layer of...

300 tdi auto spares or repair

I don't know my Discos very well but my brother had to convert his Japanese Import from auto to manual and the garage had to change the pump and electronics to make it run properly. The Jeep has only done about 70 k miles and he kept all the parts, may have what you need. Ken...Northern Ireland

    Japanese 300Tdi problems

My brother has a very nice, low mileage P reg Disco Auto which spent much of its life in Japan. He does some very heavy haulage (cattle), probably up to 4 tons on a 100 mile return journey and the Autobox couldn't handle it. Recently converted to manual but now sometimes has no power. I've had a...

    insurance

I was a NFU agent for over 20 years and am still very supportive of the company. They aren't Brokers, you are dealing direct with a mutual company and, yes, rates can appear expensive at times. Then again, plenty of people are prepared to spend a lot more for what they perceive to be premium...

Salt water corroded chassis, Whats the best treatment?

Disco exposed to salt water? Last winter most of our vehicles got covered in road salt and spray, same thing! I'm a big fan of used engine oil, pressure wash the underside if there's a lot of muck, use for a few weeks to get some dirt back on and this will act as a base for oil to penetrate...

    Drivers window jamming

I've just replaced the regulator and also the rubber channel that the window runs in. To do this I had to remove the frame from the door in order to remove the window. I was actually unaware that the frame was a separate item. There is absolutely no sign of corrosion or damage, but the window...

    Drivers window jamming

There appears to be no corrosion at all unless it has occurred at the top of the door on the horizontal channel. I didn't check it before I rebuilt the door. This car spent much of its life in Japan and appears rust free
