Hi everyone would just like to say if your thinking of buying a discovery 2 from Scotland makesure it hasn't been or doesn't need Welding..

Spent a month there and 9 times out of ten there rusty as an old anchor!!

Got a friend up there who is a mechanic he agrees with me and says Scottish winters are the ruiner!

Just a word of warning!

Got mine from up near Fife. Owned from new by a Farmer. So chassis starting to go and rear mudflap brackets totally gone. Will need a new rear chassis at some point but should get through the next MOT in august.

At least the rust was "honest", not having been hidden or bodged, so I was able to have the chassis blathered in old oil before the gritters came out.

 I really wish people wouldn't use old oil... its bloody dangerous!

I just hope there's not too many motorcyclists near you!

Idiot.

So it would be ok to buy one from Carlisle but not Gretna?

I take it Devon doesn't have the same amount of salt in the air as the whole of Scotland. We do like our chips lathered in the stuff.
You spent a whole month in Scotland with a very narrow minded attitude and lived to tell the tale . Good on you enter the commonwealth games this year. No sorry better not god forbid you'd have to come back for a second month.

You do realise you could buy one from the midlands which has spent its life in Scotland so therefore you haven't got a clue. Also my was used by the previous owner to travel to Scotland and back does that mean mines proper rusty?

Idiot.

I do not think he's thought it through in all fairness you Scottish folk don't need him.
err! no! Carlisle very dodgy for chassis's! Gretna good for wedding's! so they say!:D
And yes Gretna are good weddings ive been to one. And whilst i was there i saw a disco for sale but i didnt have it. Because of it being so rusty :D

wait till the gates are put up at Gretna, you won't get in without a visitors visa but that;s another argument!:p

Utter bollix-bought mine from Scotland last May and has minimal rust.It will rust far quicker down here on the South Coast, covered in salt spray every time the s.w. wind blows. Also bought a previous Peugeot hdi from Scotland another good buy.
Using your eyes is key for any purchase ,anywhere in the UK.

Did you say "Peugeot" and "good buy" in the same sentance?

Don't trust him he's a liar.

My mate would argue with you as he loves Peugeots and has two at the moment. They seem to be off the road more than my 90 though so I'm sure your argument is sound

i've got a mate that likes French cars, but he is generally considered a Knob by a fair few folk and not because of his car opinions....

I'm from N Ireland and into old cars, the best ones came from southern counties/ London areas, one from Oxford, 2 from Kent, one from Hampshire, Disco from London. Over here they've all rusted out years ago, as have many of the early Discos.

I would rate Scotland as having better weather than I have but if I want an older vehicle, start in the south of England.

Climate varies so much from north to south, (or at least it used to) and the the volumes of salt spread in our winters is proportionate.
