    Odd one

The 1995 model year started in September 1994, it is the same with most manufacturers.

Defender rear access ladder failed MOT

To be fair, your Defender DID NOT FAIL on the ladder, that was an advisory, it failed on a 5hit load of other faults, the numberplate seems to be the least of your problems:- Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Offside Front Brake pipe connection leaking on a hydraulic braking...

HOW TO READ a HAYNES manual.

I lost faith in Haynes manuals when I needed to change a steering rack gaiter on a van and the manual advised replacing the whole rack!!! £8 versus a few hundred and the labour. On the plus side, the manuals for my old Range Rover and Discovery more or less cover my 110.

Disco 2 folding seats into a Defender

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Must just be me who's daft enough to try and fit one in the front.

    Diff Lock does not unlock

Have you tried jacking one wheel slightly off the ground? It won't come out of diff lock if the transmission is wound up. Alternatively, if you are out and about, bumping a front wheel up and down a kerb can unwind the transmission. You can't force it in or out of diff lock as the internal...

Disco 2 folding seats into a Defender

Discovery third row seats are waaaaaaaay too small for Defender front seats. I bought a cheap one and it's a non-starter.

    Leaky injectors...I think!

Could the boost pin have seized or something associated with it failed?

    Leaky injectors...I think!

Something is well out of sorts there. When did it last have a fuel filter? Are there any leaks on the turbo hoses? Has someone swapped it for a 2.5N/A without telling you? Mine is a 300tdi 110, it will pull a loaded horse trailer at 70mph all day unless it hits a really steep hill. Sounds like...

    Defender TD5 transmission failure

As said above, second vote for a hub drive flange, the splines wear away where it mates with the half-shaft. You usually have to try hard to break a diff, eg caning the boll0xoff it off road. I don't think that Defender half-shafts snap like the old Series half-shafts did.

200tdi steering box drop arm removal and seal replacement

Take the steering box off after you have slackened the big nut, take it to a Land Rover garage with the proper tool and gat them to remove the arm. Or as others have said, cut a slot with a grinder, whack it off with a lump hammer and replace the arm. It is a lot easier to fit the seal off the...

    110 Utility to CSW

It is possible to change the body between all body variants, the big bits will be easy enough, but there will be lots of small parts as well. One thing to bear in mind is that the Low Emission Zone doesn't recognise aftermarket conversions and will still treat it as a commercial vehicle, I...

    Blue smoke

I would imagine that the bubbles are gasses leaking from the combustion chamber.

    Blue smoke

Just had another look at your videos, I would say that the head gasket isn't leaking oil, it is blowing bubbles, which says combustion gasses to me. There shouldn't be any gas / air in the oil-ways, so leaking oil shouldn't blow bubbles. Either way, off with it's head.

    Blue smoke

I would check the timing for the smoke and your oil leak may be combustion gasses rather than oil, the black soot can make it look like oil. Either way it won't heal itself, I would be inclined to whip the head off and replace the gasket. The job will be a lot more difficult if you put it off...

    Blue smoke

What engine is it? Does the blue smoke smell of burnt oil or does it smell of diesel? For burnt oil: If it is piston rings it is likely to smoke al the time, especially under load. If it is valve guides it should smoke on start up and clear. If it is a turbo, oil could be leaking past the...

What filter for this air box?

I am not 100% familiar with the 200tdi, but if it is the same as a 300tdi, the breather fits between the air filter and the turbo, which eliminates the risk of contaminating the air filter. Mine was a 2.5N/A and had the same filter housing as yours, you can see that the military modified your...

What filter for this air box?

A second vote for not using the engine breather on your new filter housing, the military modified their Land Rovers fitted with that style of housing, and vented into the inlet manifold. The 200 and 300 tdi's vent into the inlet after the filter as well.

    200tdi to 300 tdi

Have a look on the Glencoyne Engineering site, http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/tdi300.htm there is loads of good information. Basically a factory Defender 200tdi engine mounts and gearbox bolt pattern are the same as a 2.5 N/A. Bolting a 300tdi engine in place of a 200tdi requires the same...
