    Head gasket upside down

I know, I'm a total muppet. I torqued up the cylinder head and spotted the gasket was upside down. I undid it and put the gasket on the right way up, and there's no oil or water in the engine. Am I good to still use the gasket, or is it buggered and I need to get a new one? TIA

    Aftermarket capillary temp gauge

Thanks Lynall - any idea what adaptor I'd need, and where to get one?

    Battery Isolator Switch

It's really down to where you position it really - I fitted one near the footwell and regretted it because it was always at risk of being knocked. In my series I mounted onto the bulkhead, that was much better. Buy a switch and tape it in different places, see what's convenient

    Battery Isolator Switch

There are lots of cheap but reliable ones on Amazon or eBay - personally, I'd recommend one with a removable key, given that the battery is under the seat, so one that isolates on the terminal is a pain. I have fitted mine to the seat box before, just need to be sure your passengers won't...

Defender running a disco 200tdi - fan shrouding

Afternoon. My 110 doesn't have a viscous fan and shrouding fitted, but has a pretty rubbish electric fan fitted. I'm debating reinstating a viscous fan, but from reading the forums, I understand it's a bit of a chocolate teapot without a shroud in place. My Q - will a standard defender...

    Aftermarket capillary temp gauge

Afternoon all, I'm approaching the "cooling" stage of my disco 200tdi engine rebuild in my 110. I'm replacing a lot of the core cooling components, but I guess an element of paranoia is creeping in about the vague at best standard Defender temp gauge and the disco sender adaptor I've fitted...

    Disco 200tdi fuel pump woes...

Just got my injector pump and injectors back from Diesel Bob, while the price stung, everything looks like new, I'm really impressed that what I thought would be a total write off injection pump wise is as good as it is, ready to go back onto the engine. I would thoroughly recommend Diesel Bob...

    Torque for 200tdi

Sorry, should have specified, yes the head bolts - thanks I'll take a look at laser

    Torque for 200tdi

Afternoon, I only have a defender haynes manual, but have a disco 200tdi in my 110 - are the torque settings the same for the disco 200tdi? Or if they're different, please can someone advise. Also, any recommendations on gauges to measure the 60 degree turn after ft/l, I have a cheapy from...

No holes on my head gasket

I didn't, because I thought the head gasket was more to do with how far out of the block the pistons crown? but not a bad shout to ask

No holes on my head gasket

The improved flow one, thankfully they allow you to pay with PayPal, so I'm paying in 3 with that bad boy 🫠

No holes on my head gasket

Thanks both. It's a "new" cylinder head from turner engineering, so it may well have had a smidge of a skim, but given I started with a no hole gasket, and thats the thickest there is, I don't have much choice but to go for the same again, either that or I double them up I guess 😀

No holes on my head gasket

Ah brilliant, thank you. is it the same head gasket for 200 and 300?

No holes on my head gasket

I've got a new cylinder head, but no change to the block, still OK with a no hole? I'll have more of a Google then

No holes on my head gasket

Evening, I'm sure this is often asked, but my 200tdi head gasket doesn't have any holes on the size tab, but from what I've seen, most sites talk about one, two or three hole sizes - any idea which one I need 🫠?

Block off heater matrix from engine?

Afternoon all, I'm well into my (unplanned) rebuild of my 200TDi engine - I'm planning on replacing the water pump, radiator and hopefully rebuild the heater matrix. Is there a way to block off the heater matrix from the engine? I'd prefer to get the engine sorted and rebuild the heater later.

Injector 4 feels seized in place

Well, I managed to get injector no.4 out of the cylinder :D I thought I'd share how I approached it, in case it helps someone in the future. -- Continual soaking with diesel didn't seem to do anything, so instead I went with a healthy dose of crack it freeze spray on the injector at the top...

    300 TDi Black smoke !

I know it sounds daft, but have you serviced it? New air filter, new fuel filter? Could just be the mix is out of whack. I also do advocate redex diesel cleaner, a tank of that through my old 90 cleaned up the smoke a treat. Failing all that, I'd suggest checking the cylinder compression to at...

    Replacement 200TDi cylinder head

Ah that's reassuring, thank you. I'll give my usual land rover chap a shout and see if it's something he could help with, the main issue for me is I can't move my 110 atm, so I'd have to just take the cylinder head, which could be a faff (in conjunction with my stuck injector )

Injector 4 feels seized in place

Lol, no fuel pump attached at the moment, so no turning over option for me, and I Can't turn the engine over, removed fuel pump for rebuild 😒 Any recommendations on slide hammers?
