Evening, I'm sure this is often asked, but my 200tdi head gasket doesn't have any holes on the size tab, but from what I've seen, most sites talk about one, two or three hole sizes - any idea which one I need ๐Ÿซ ?

Head gasket thickness is dependant on piston crown protrusion. It would be good practice to double check this whilst head is off and ensure correct thickness is used. A dti is always handy to have anyway!

If you have not changed anything on the bottom end, change like for like, if you know its the right 1 ๐Ÿค”
So as above its not a bad idea to check and its an excuse to buy more tools:vb-banana:
As you can see no hole is the thickest so maybe somebody just put it on to be safe;).

Although the performance of the engine will be lower/less power if its too thick, I am pretty sure us mere mortals will not notice it:)

Below was stolen borrowed from the net

200Tdi & 300Tdi cylinder head gasket sizes

1 hole 1.30mm ----- ERR5261 for piston protrusion between 0.50 to 0.60mm
2 hole 1.40mm ----- ERR5262 --------------------------------------- 0.61 to 0.70mm
3 hole 1.50mm ----- ERR5263 --------------------------------------- 0.71 to 0.80mm
NO holes 1.60mm -- ERR7154 ------------------------------ if higher than 0.80mm use the NO HOLE gasket.

Ah brilliant, thank you.

is it the same head gasket for 200 and 300?

It appears so according to the part number search.

But then I know nuffink about them ;) .

But 1 thought (remember I know nothing) Are the heads skimable? was your previous 1 skimmed so this needs to be taken into account. Is your replacement head really New?

So I would be careful, and buy some tools to check. Am sure there is a standard head measurement available.

That's me thinking out loud and may be a load of rubbish๐Ÿค”

No your right. Each gasket is a specific thickness and you select accordingly with how high crown is in block.
If heads had a skim itโ€™s obviously brought them closer together and would need a thicker gasket. Youโ€™d need to know what was taken off the head to add the figures together though I think?
Iโ€™m not sure if any were no hole from factory though!
Best bet is measure, then measure again!!

Thanks both. It's a "new" cylinder head from turner engineering, so it may well have had a smidge of a skim, but given I started with a no hole gasket, and thats the thickest there is, I don't have much choice but to go for the same again, either that or I double them up I guess ๐Ÿ˜€

Which one did you go with? Iโ€™m going to be ordering one soon! Welcome ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
