How much have you spent on your Defender?

Too much, I don't know anymore. I was bored one day and started adding it all up, got to £10k, scared myself, put everything back in the box and stopped counting.

defender door check strap assembly mounting

While their is 3 threaded holes, the defender check straps only use two, not sure why, maybe they just carried it over from earlier models as per Dag's post. Ref different threads, the heater box, fuel filter housing and steering column rivnuts are all M8 threads. Check strap holes are M6. And...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

Well another bit of an update, rest of my bits arrived, new bolts etc.. Painted the calipers one night in the week, although I did debate whether to leave them as they was, but knew I would kick myself as soon as they start looking a bit tatty. So Saturday was spent building the rest of the axle...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

They are Mick, they might not be the right way around yet (I didn't check), just grabbed the top one out the box and stuck 2 bolts in to hold it to the hub to make sure they where right. Full assembly will commence at the weekend.

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

At some point today, the order from lr direct arrived. So when I got home from work I had a quick 10 minutes loosely bolting the disc to hub, hub on, caliper on and pads in. Just wanted to make sure they was all correct. Why, well I ended up buying vented and was hoping they was all matching...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

Another little update from the weekend, not exactly to plan, but not too bad either I suppose.. First job was to get the axle built up as far as I could, so new swivels, cv's etc and swivel housings/stub axles on. New bearings greased, races knocked into the hubs and new seals, all ready to go...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

Well thanks chaps :) I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy doing.. Just a small update before I go out and do something. As I mentioned in a previous post, I needed to chose a colour to paint the radius arms etc.. So I was on the arc-rite paints website, just having a general browse, but...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

Haha, the only thing that will fit in my work space Mick :( Well I wouldn't mind restoring a Series 1, and that would fit, but they are silly money  One day I may have a bigger garage, or working space so I can take on something bigger :D Or here's to hoping anyway..

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

So moving onwards with the project the axles are the first job. Now some of you will remember this picture of a few bits I had galvanised for the last project. Well I had some things left over, which I actually nearly sold when I was tight for cash, so glad I didn't now as it has given me a good...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild round 4

Hello again chaps and chapesses, and thanks for tuning into another one of my projects again :) I have been mulling this one over for a while now, and with the other 90 pretty much done it is time to make a start on it. So what is the plan? Well I'm not really sure yet, one idea I was...

    Chassis swap

Row spec 300tdi exhaust is available, from memory the down pipe is the same. Middle and rear are part numbers - ESR4526 ESR4527 If we are talking about a 90 that is? I have just built a 200tdi 90 with td5 rear tank and made the above work.

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

Guess I'm kind of committed now, cut the chassis up this afternoon, well it saves it being sat about for months on end and gets it out of the way. Last night I also got the front axle on axle stands, wheels removed, radius arms off and ready to start stripping down. Until I had a thought...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

Well ordered a new starter and got it fitted Friday evening, she spins over like a good 'en now :) Saturday morning I decided to strip the rest of the chassis down. Just got to decide which way I'm going to go with the rebuild, their is no engine, so I have a couple of options in my mind.. If...

    200tdi 90 Build

Top work so far, it looks great, I like the engine :) I will look forward to the rest of the rebuild. Oh, p.s, I don't suppose you have a link to the electro plating kit you bought? I quite like that :) and the thought of being able to do it myself.

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

Finally bit the bullet and bought some new wheels and tyres, which turned up yesterday. And couldn't resist having a quick test fit :) A big improvement over what was on before, but I think they could do with changing to the same colour as the roof really.
