A few vids from last weekend's off-road play at Matchams

No shame at all, it was a tricky site in places, especially after the Special Track boys had dug a few holes  :D And despite the brake fluid reservoir being full it was steep enough in places for the low fluid warning to go off  Shiny P38 on all terrains did very well :)

    Small cheap touring caravan

Caravan on drive isn't a permanent structure, it's mobile if required to be and as indicated earlier if stripped out with no mains water or sewerage connected it can be referred to as additional storage, could even be a chicken coop for all anyone cares - there's not a lot anybody can do about...

    How much fuel (not mpg)

On a greenlane trip a few years back my V8 90 used sixty quids worth compared to 30 quids worth used by others in their 200/300tdi 90s There was a lot of idle time and it's surprising what they use at idle compared to a doozil, the joys of twin SU carbs I guess, EFI would have been a lot better.

Read Trewey's lift thread, now baffled as to where to find the stuff.

My old one was a coil sprung year 2000 D2, I ran 265s on it ok with no issues with rubbing or anything. it had standard height original springs and the tyres were fitted to original Land Rover alloys. The only significant difference was a winch bumper on the front which meant there were no...

Read Trewey's lift thread, now baffled as to where to find the stuff.

Why bother with all the lift bull**** and all the associated expense in then getting the suspension geometry correct again. The biggest issue is under diff clearance in the ruts and larger diameter tyres help alleviate this and you can do this without a suspension lift. Earlier D2s will require...

    disco 1 or disco 2

For purely off road fun I'd have a 300tdi, for use as a daily driver and occasional greenlane tool I'd have Td5 all the way. Although I think I was lucky with the Td5 that I had as it was base spec on coils with much less elektrickery to go wrong. It's the rust in the chassis that's the Achilles...

Tyres! Ha - No joke! :-D

Fit a good quality all terrain and be done with, it'll be the best compromise between fuel economy and grip, skinnier tyres will give less rolling resistance.

    All terrain tyre comparisons.

Very true, all tyres have good and bad points, they're all too feckin expensive really and in some cases you do get what you pay for. I've settled on the General Grabber AT and have found it to be a particularly versatile tyre that does everything well on or off the road.
