Right I am off to uni soon so will have to say goodbye to my 90 for a little while, luckily it wont be too long inbetween visits :) . Anyway, I bought a solar trickle charger to keep the battery topped up as it will only be used by my dad on the odd occasion whilst I am not there. The charger has an adaptor for the ciggy socket or it can clip straight onto the battery terminals. Obviously, the ciggy socket is the easiest but will it accept a charge through this?

Thanks.

as long as the ciggy socket is always live then yes it will, if it don't work with ign. off then no it won't.

So would the best test just be to plug something like a sat nav into it and see if it comes on without the ignition? Solar charger does not seem to tell if charging or not -.-

if its the original socket, no, it wont, the cig ligher is only on with the ignition.
also, what size is it?
Ive got a couple one is a tiny thing, and only puts out about 1/2 a watt, this will keep a battery charged over winter, providing it is in good condition, and there is absolutly NO load on it, (thinking alarm/tracker/radio memory) (in reality, it provides less than an amp a day in the winter)
The other is a 4W panel, and this works ok for keeping batterys topped up.

Looks like I am going to be putting it on batt terminals. The panel is a folding one of a reasonable size, id guess just over the size of 2 dvd boxes. The battery itself is virtually new and is a marine / starting and deep cycle combo.

Sounds like a 4w briefcase one - use on mine and works well

12v 4 Watt W Solar Panel Fold Up Briefcase Battery Trickle Charger: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

If Landy is going to be laid up, clips straight to battery avoids messing - ended up putting a second ciggy lighter socket in mine direct wired to battery via an inline fuse

Without stating the bleeding obvious make sure you park your Landy where it will get a good amount of sun (in uk!) for most of the day. In the shadows really reduces what these panels can produce.

Wire a cigarette lighter socket directly to your battery and plug solar charger in, simples!

ent got time to order / wire one in now with everything I have to do before next week but it will be on the list for the future, I will just have to make do with the connectors to the battery terminals for now.
