Freelander 1 Wheel bearings - where is the best place to buy the kits?

Hello Rob Couple of things. Others may chime in. When refitting your wheel bearing remember to ensure that the ABS emitter ‘tone ring’ is fitted in facing the inside of the hub. The tone ring is grey(ish) in colour(in my experience) but maybe a different colour. Also your abs Sensor protrudes...

    Freelander 1 Sunroof… what’s left of it

As I have been twiddling my thumbs whilst waiting for some medical results etc(can’t drive/work til given the all clear) I decided to remove the sunroof.. The mechanisms are jammed but do lift the roof up.. but nothing else.. wondering if there is a ‘two stage’ opening procedure or just one...

    Freelander 1 Freelander Update

Just a quick update on my Freelander 1 TD4. I have decided to remove the VCU as I noted a ‘tightening’ whilst turning into our drive way. Felt like the brakes were being applied so off the VCU came. Driving the car afterwards in 2 wheel/FWD is typical of any FWD drive car and no much less...

    Freelander 1 VCU Test

Just re reading the forum for ‘knowledge’ etc as it’s been a while since I actually had a functioning ‘mobility scooter’(I.e. TD4) Might have a VCU issue as when manoeuvring in a tighter location it feels as though things are ‘locking up’ when doing tight turns.. anyhoo have re read the VCU...

Freelander 1 Oh Dear.. More Tribulations

Have spent the last 3 plus years getting the bus from Leven to Dunfermline one/twice a week for work. £11 one way and a 2hr 15min journey… a melting pot of humanity with all sorts taking the same trip. It’s an eye opener to say the least.. Not all bad.. and not all good. A fair few people that...

Hello Just been looking through some posts and found a couple of negative threads regards Ron Box’s destroying HP fuel pumps. Googling took my to the Rover 75 forum somewhere… My question(s) are regards how the pump failed and what damage was caused? I have a bit of a fetish regard diesel...

Battery discharging after going through deep water

Just to chime in. If you are running the engine and battery voltage is dropping rapidly and more so when increasing idling then you could have dropped a diode or two in your alternator. Diode prevent current from returning to the alternator when charging the battery as the battery will ‘lose’...

Freelander 1 Oh Dear.. More Tribulations

Haha a trip to The Highlands is definitely needed last time I went up there was in 2009 and in a Range Rover TDV8 (a ‘works’ car so to speak) it too was black like my TD4. Don’t get to travel like I used to that needs to change… not sure if Greta would like to come along for the trip…

Hello Ross was thinking along those lines but had the exhaust off to carry out all the work under the car. It looked clear so I left it but certainly was on my list etc. car drives beautifully now and has a bit of poke even for 112bhp or whatever it’s meant to be..

    Freelander 1 HOLY (NON) SMOKES

Well…. after sorting out the sticking caliper and ensuring the steering wheel was on straight(it wasn’t) I ventured into St Andrews to a local wheel and MOT ‘specialist’ for an alignment and MOT. As these were separated by a couple of hours I used the opportunity to visit the barber, have an...

Yes I ditched the ‘upgrade’ filter separator thing. Regular servicing and being a ‘nosey owner’ sticking it where others fear to look. Actually checked all that last night before a short test drive.. I thought I had swapped it over and yes I had done that. No harm done just took 30 minutes etc.
