As I have been twiddling my thumbs whilst waiting for some medical results etc(can’t drive/work til given the all clear) I decided to remove the sunroof..
The mechanisms are jammed but do lift the roof up.. but nothing else.. wondering if there is a ‘two stage’ opening procedure or just one press(holding it in) does everything.
The glass is in terrible condition regards corrosion. I will ‘super bodge’ it to put it back in til further notice. The three torx on each rail were not the best, the front one on both sides severely corroded. The others just screwed out. The mounting rails on the glass are again severely corroded at the front. The drain holes on the ‘cassette’ now missing.. only one has survived and it’s like brand new… I will be replacing the sunroof tomorrow (hopefully) either fixed or not. I will try to add some steel so I can at least secure the sunroof on the front fixings.
Must admit removal was quite simple but the headlining has suffered slightly. Also out of the car it’s apparent that I have managed to get some sticky finger prints on it.. my bad!!
The sunroof cassette isn’t badly corroded but the mechanisms are jammed as mentioned earlier. I have taken to submerging them in diesel.. a bit drastic but kind of stuck for anything else. Hopefully they will ‘free up’ as the worm gear won’t push the rail to the rear on both sides ATM.
I attach some photos the steel on the glass really is in bad shape..
Will let you know any (good or bad) outcomes..
I expect diesel to be dripping onto my head from now on(well, when I replaced everything I guess?)
Cheers
Malcolm
