Preparations for COLD - minus 5c

Yea.....if we'd needed to go further then the second day would have to have been cut short. That said, at least Sweden upto Linköping was really good for driving. Hardly anything on the road, wide roads, and also the weather was good too. One thing to point out that once there's ice and snow...

Preparations for COLD - minus 5c

I pretty much did that journey a couple of weeks ago. Finishing in Sweden, though. I got the ferry over to Dunkirk (as was slightly cheaper and put me slightly closer to Sweden), we got the 10am crossing getting us into Dunkirk at 1 (local time). We made it to Bremen the first day about 10pm...

    steering lock jammed!

I drilled off centre on the bolts then used a hammer and a punch to turn the bolt to undo them.

On mine they appear to be riveted. Easy to drill out

    Fuel level sender

The gauge wires I don't think can be the wrong way round - if i remember there's one male and one female blade connector on the back, and corresponding female and male connectors in the loom. I will try and wire a direct wire and see what I get.

    Fuel level sender

It could be the gauge and sender had been replaced before I bought the vehicle....the two senders looked the same, the old one didn't change resistance at all, hence why I replaced it. The sender itself can't really be fitted upside down as it has a plate that goes into the fuel tank on...

    Fuel level sender

The issue is that it is responding backwards - surely the arm should go up and raise the fuel level, and go down and drop the fuel level - this is going the other way around. Mine only has ever had two wires - rather than having an extra for the low level light too. The item I ordered was...

    Fuel level sender

Since my rebuild of my 1992 200tdi 90 my fuel tank has said it's full. It's fairly full, but I'd imagine 3/4s full. I took the new sender out today and it seems to be working backwards. If i lift up the arm, the fuel gauge goes down, if I let it down it goes up. I thought I'd fitted the wires...

    Road tyres....read on

Cheers for the pointers guys, i decided to go with the correct size ones - ended up being some Avon AT 235/85R16's. When I compared the speed difference between what I have and what I should have, it ended up being 7 or 8% less, so I figured given the long journey I've got coming, that it was...

For Sale Clarke mig welder 155t

Sold now For sale due to moving and not being able to fit it in :( Clarke mig welder 155t I've had it a few years, I understand it's a fairly old model but it works well still. A year or so ago it had an off day, where the motor for the wire wasn't working. It then started working again so...

    Road tyres....read on

I'm expecting to get some abuse for this, as I know how tyre threads usually go. However, from what I can find most people want road tyres that are good off road, or the biggest tyres possible. I'm going to go on a long drive over to Sweden shortly and need to replace my tyres. I've decided to...

    Is my engine overheating?

I fitted the mechanical gauge I ordered and had it running for about 15 minutes. it got upto 60 degrees which matched my laser thermometer pointing at various bits around the head. I'm yet to take it for a drive, will do that tomorrow hopefully however it seems that the issue was indeed the...

    1992 200tdi restoration

Well, somewhat disappointing effort on my behalf on keeping this updated. I may perhaps go back and add more photos, but for the time being the important information is..... IT PASSED! I did the MOT on Friday and it had a couple of silly things - tightening steering box (I didn't test it, as...

    Drum brakes binding

Yep, ring is on the trailing shoe, the bottom spring is coming from from the inside to the outside, and the top spring (new) is between the peg on the leading shoe and the peg on the backplate, running behind the adjuster. the leading shoe has resistance when you pull it, if it was on the...

    Is my engine overheating?

Did it go straight to hot? or just quicker than it should and overread? I've got one....somewhere. We're in the process of moving, so I'm worried it's been packed already.
