'Very Rare' Series 2a on ebay...

My bet is its an S3 with S2A paperwork. These come up all the time on e-bay. Its very unlikely that someone would change the dash, wings, sills, door hinges, bulkhead, front panel plus all the dash wiring etc. Giveaway will be the chassis - corner welded S2a vs top welded S3. My bet is its...

'Very Rare' Series 2a on ebay...

Its a very nice S3 with numbers that will never match. It got 2 owners since 1975 because its a 1975 vehicle not a 1967. Pity as its nice, but one day it could be unsellable unless the paperwork is brought into line, and that could be tricky..

    Gear lever gaiters

My last one lasted a month, I took it off and cut it up, not only was it so stiff it kept the hand brake on, it was 1/16" thick one side a 3/16" the other. So I spent about £6 on a "universal" gear lever boot off e-bay and made it fit. I left 1" of the stiff handbrake boot and glued the new...

    Steering Arm

Agreed, run oil down between the relay and the chassis for a few days, keep tapping it. There is a section where water gets in a swells it and it gets stuck. Once it moves you should be OK. A lot of people free it with a jack from underneath but you may be short of weight.

    Re-framing doors

Give SP Panels a call and see if they will sell you the frame without the skin. They manufacture so its worth asking. https://www.sp-4x4.com/GALVANISED_SERIES_2_DOOR_BOTTOM_337791_p/337791galv.htm

    CAV problem

I forgot to add, if its ever been run on biodiesel or veg oil and there are traces in the system it really gums up these pumps.as they are fuel lubricated with tiny clearances. The veg oil sets if left standing - it polymerises over time - and will completely glue the moving parts together...

    CAV problem

Pistons could be gummed, if so worth trying some penetrating oil. If there's a tiny bit of corrosion I have polished out with brasso but as said above, dirt is your enemy.

Series 3 Ball Joints - An Unusual Combination of Fully Threaded and Not

I've notied that a lot of the spares places are only stocking the fully threaded now so its probably been replaced at some time. Not a problem so long as the rod ends match the tube type

    CAV problem

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

The LWB dual master can be used, but it has different unions so you must get the right ones if you don't have them. Also which master connection goes to front or rear is different SWB to LWB so you need to be careful and do your research. If yours has two 3 way master its a simple mod to take...

Series 3 Brake servo - LWB into SWB

OK you did the right thing to stop. You have to do some research, start with Terri-annes expedition site and read the brakes section. Do some googling. You have a choice to make and you need to be sure about which route you take: 1 std brakes, no servo - single line. simple and will...

    Towing

The Police have a simple and effective approach. The law is clear, driver must tow within limits of the plated towing weight of the vehicle and the trailer must be loaded to within its plated gross weight. They know where the plates are and they read from that. The driver must have a license...

No key for fuel filler cap

II would no more help stranger get a filler cap off with a key as I would how to unlock a car without a key or what my pin number is. If someone came to my door with that question I would photograph them just in case. Perhaps I'm unlucky but when I have taken my camera out to take api9cute of...

Agreed, And it is the driver's responsibility to read the plated weight, check the load, and confirm they comply.

No key for fuel filler cap

I fear you are right. Very odd to have fuel in but no key. I actually found my self with no filler key 600 miles from home but I won't share that (honest) story as it may well turn up on here next week.

Defender Brake Pedal box in a 2a/3 ?

Measured my Wolf wheels on my LWB, they are OEM LR ones, with a 235/85 they sit about 1/2" inside the body. There are 6.5 ET20.5 so any reduction in ET would soon take them outside the body. If the Zeus moves the wheels out up to 1/2" (I think its less) they should just be OK, Mine has the mill...

No key for fuel filler cap

The best way is to get the key, why is it missing? It must have been filled up somehow.
