How rare are series 109 6 cylinder diesels?

Seeing as the OP is in France its a perfectly reasonable question. They had the reputation of being a very sweet engine to use.Cant be that many around, I guess most of the Santana 6 pots have been scrapped or parked under trees... Price - as with any LR is dependant on condition,if its any good...

Freelander 1.8 K series hgf - more data

Disagree, I think its more to do with the actual gasket design and construction, made worse by the sandwich design allowing too much fretting between the major components. On all the K series motors I have done I have used the solid oil rail as part of the job. That and the probable indifference...

    Engine just conked out!

I learnt a long time ago that even the most reliable things can and do fail, I currently have 4 dead Storm ecu's on the shelf that may or may not get fixed, they don't have the best reputation in the world of ecu repairs...

Freelander 1.8 K series hgf - more data

After 8 years of ownership.... And now on 140,000m - my wifes FL1 is coming out of service with a suspect blown headgasket. Bought for £500 with the original head gasket blown,it has done sterling service and owes nothing at all.In 8 years twice it has conked out - both due to failed rotor...

    Idle 'judder' please help!

Get the car onto diagnostics - on live data, at idle any injector showing a positive value of 3.5mm3 needs swopping out for a new one. They are shi-e,so don't even think of using aftermarket cheapo recon ones. Bosch common fail injection...

    series prices

Seems to me that people are fed up with their money being worth nothing in the bank so more people are buying cars/bikes/houses/fishing rods - whatever their dream was / is and enjoying them. One upside of this is that many people have little in the way of knowledge/skills or kit to look after...

    LPG spark plugs

Peter, over the years I have seen many ignition and fuel trim related faults on Rover v8's - esp when running on gas... The truth is they are more likely to be long term reliable on a basic plug like an NGK BPR6ES. Reason being that they require less voltage to fire and so place less stress on...

    Chassis rust

No, its the heat from the mechanicals that dries it all out. The way to protect the chassis is to grind back to bare, shiny metal - then immediately paint it with a decent primer and black paint. I use stuff that we used for painting park railings made by Dacrylate. No connection to them,just...

How to ID a 99+ MY and 4 wheel TCS?

Easy way to tell is to look at the ABS ecu, if its plain alloy its pre 4 wheel.(Never goes wrong) If its a black ecu its the 99 on 4 wheel TC rubbish...

dicso 300 edc wont start after engine swap

Put the original ecu back in and it will go.The engine ecu is NOT coded to the engine, but it IS to the alarm ecu in the car.The "new" engine ecu you have fitted will not recognise the alarm ecu and therefore not allow fuel.

    Disco 2 air bag problem

When its working, maybe it is,but Island 4x4 will sell you a coil conversion for £55 + Vat. Most owners consider DII's as old bangers now and wont spend the money on air parts, esp compressors... My own (very) smart TD5 ES rides very well on its coil conversion, nobody has ever complained of a...

    Disco 2 air bag problem

If the bump stops are still present and the chassis is not rotted out there is no problem in driving at a speed the driver can cope with - avoiding potholes... I have to say its a while since any DII owner has asked me to replace an air bag when a coil conversion can be fitted and forgotten so...

P38 Gems rough idle slight misfire

A multimeter would be a good start, the Titania oxygen sensors are fed 5v from the Gems ecu. So quite how you get 6.25v from your diagnostic tool has me guessing. The short term trims are fine, for a multifuel engine with non standard cam, no matter how hard you try to trim the LPG ecu - you are...
