Help needed -what is this part?

That looks like a washer that stops end-float on a shaft, its surface ground, has ears to stop it rotating, and shows the right wear. I'm thinking oil pump, distributor shaft or cam shaft. Took a quick look in parts book but images are too poor to tell. Before you strip it all down are you...

Series 3 Best quality Swivels currently on market

I think the problem is there is no right answer. Even when you research and choose a supplier the parts that arrive may be in a blue box. Also a lot of suppliers are re-packing the same parts so you may just be paying for a different colour box. I've used a lot of BP parts and some have been...

    Om606

Ratbag, your post made me smile with recognition. I did 100k miles in a W124 and it would bog down something rotten, it had the 4sp auto and clearly needed 5 sp. On the hill on the M40 if I hit the start at 70 I'd be at 60 at the top, if I hit the start at 65 I'd be down to 30 by the top! It...

Stuck in France towing boat. Awful chunking from underneath!

I've just been refunded a order from Germany. The German shippers made such a mess of the paperwork that the German supplier gave up. I got the stuff in the UK in the end so all ended well but it was interesting.. The order was below 150 Eu and I believe the new rule is that below 150 Eu vat...

Stuck in France towing boat. Awful chunking from underneath!

You should try a Series 2A LWB camper and a loaded Sankey. 40 mph all the way up that long rise on the M3 on a holiday weekend. Made sure we have both tanks full and plenty of Scoobbies so we didn't have to stop and risk the wrath of the people we'd help up. .Irony was that this meant that we...

    Om606

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM606_engine I'm not sure about the 606, I'm more familiar with the 603, but for the 603 all the turbo engines were LHD.as the steering box is where the turbo would be. Wonderful engine, good for 400k miles, sooth, quiet, just useless off-road, torque...

    New Defender

That is the issue. Some of the complex BMWs, Audis and Mercs are disappearing fast and these were expensive. The more complex BWMs especially are getting very costly to fix. My 1992 Merc is the same value as a 2008 one, I'm assuming that has to do with complexity and repair bills. Mine has...

    Thread sizes gauge retaining rods

If you want a mix try 10-32 UNF, its close too.

    Thread sizes gauge retaining rods

The trouble it is "some" parts. They seemed to mix and match but my 1970 Lucas starter is metric threads and the 1970's brake servo has 10 mm cotter pin, that threw me, especially as the washers are in the parts book "7/16"

    Thread sizes gauge retaining rods

While every bit of logic says 2BA try and M4 just in case. Lucas went metric very early for some parts.

Series 3 Perkins Engine Swap - Clutch Issues

The thing that settles it is where the holes are in the flywheel for the clutch housing. These will be drilled to take a particular size and type of clutch housing. These are pretty standard so once you have a part number off the old one its easy to replace. This will determine the clutch...

    Large Wing Mirrors Series

My S2A has the hinges with the holes but the mirrors are on brackets to the hinge bolts. They are available if I can find the part number but more importantly they look easy to make.

    Tank Repair

I've not had success with glass fibre with fuel, it seems to be able to leach along the joint and get under the fibregalss. Plastic metal seems to work with oil but again I'm not sure with petrol. I would either braze of soft solder patches. They repair old motor bike tanks with soldered on...

    Series 2A good to great

Beware stainless, it can be weak if its not the right grade, pick up on the threads (galls) something rotten and corrodes (mildly) when in contact with aluminium and work hardens. LR got this one right with zinc plated steel, which is why the original fixings have lasted so well. I do use some...

Series 3 Perkins Engine Swap - Clutch Issues

Agreed. Do you have the list of owners in the log book? Its worth trying to find who did the conversion and asking them what they fitted. Could save you hours. Mine has a 10" clutch. The problem is there is no way of knowing what's in it until you slide the box back and take a look. Its...

    Master cylinder seal kit

If its an ally master I would not bother changing the seals as the bores wear. Works OK in cast iron as only the seals wear. You may be lucky but its annoying to strip it down and find a step in the bore.
