    Glow plug problems

Yes, I had knocked off the solenoid connection yesterday. It is now back where it should be. I traced the glow plug wire ( thick brown and red) back through the bulkhead, but couldn't see it when I took the column shroud off- I thought it should be in there somewhere... the shroud is still...

    Glow plug problems

Ok... Battery charged overnight... Connection to stop solenoid knocked off. No current to glowplugs! Now to trace the lack of current..which would be the underlying reason for cold start issues.

    Glow plug problems

Will do in the morning- battery is inside charging as I ran it down trying stuff. I doubt it is fuel temperature, as it started fine earlier, when it was colder, and the engine was still warmish when I was trying to start it...

    Glow plug problems

My 90 was rather slow to start- even with 30 seconds heating time, it still took 10 seconds or so of cranking to catch.... Given it runs fine when going, an obvious possibility is glowplugs so I decided to change them. Working from the front, I changed the first three, and then had some stuff...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Changed the first three glowplugs in the engine (2.5 D, the 19J), which made no difference. Moved a few trailers of wood, came back and had lunch, changed the last and hardest to access glowplug, and the engine turns over with the starter motor, but won't catch.... Worked on it until I ran...

Ignored signs saying don't come this way... went to DIY place for lots of glue for fixing in insulation. As it is the first day of holiday in the ski season, the gendarmes are out stopping idiots trying to go up snowed up passes without the correct equipment....oddly enough, defenders get...

    Door locks

Thanks- will do tomorrow, when it is light... And here you go. For the lock barrels, shiny one with key is new defender spec barrel from paddocks. Other is the one I just removed. The rear door took a new defender barrel without a problem!

    Door locks

I've got a 1986 90 but being such an early one, it seems to have a few features left over from a series 3... I just tried to change the door locks, and found my defender barrels from paddocks don't fit.... So I either have series handles, or anti burst ones... any way to tell the difference...

    Leather repairing scuffs

Don't underestimate the power of proper, wax based, old fashioned shoe polish. Some places even do renovating creams- it'll have more leather nourisher, and less tint. https://www.timpson.co.uk/shoe-care/shoe-polish/cherry-blossom-renovating-cream.html It can't hurt, and a fiver plus elbow...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Replaced the air filter, ripped out the oil soaked bonnet lining and checked the glow plugs and the first one I found was covered in crud, and with a 2.5TD with them wired in series, I though it was easier to replace all four than find how many are dead... To do after lunch, adjust handbrake...

    Show me your table!

Does it need to be more complex than a bit of plywood on hinges? Use para cord or similar to hold it in place when open, and put a pad of foam or something in each corner to prevent rattles. A catch of some kind, or simply a bolt, as you are going to have a 10 or 13mm spanner in the car...

Lined out the back of a 90 with plywood to make a dog carrying system that my wife approves of, and still work with skis, tools and everything else. Drove up to the ski resort, and decided I can actually ski faster than the car goes....that should be a bumper sticker!

Fielded a big parcel from paddocks. Routered my home made cubby box to fit perfectly Fitted new mud guards ( old flooring) Replaced the knackered bonnet striker, and found out that not only didn't I need the bonnet plate I'd ordered, they're sent me two, and they didn't fit anyway Changed...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Fitted a speedo cable. Managed to get the pointless centre seat out, after drilling out the two hidden screws. Took it to the garage to get the windscreen fitted after I failed. They used it as a teaching point for their apprentice-" you won't see many like this any more" and it took five of...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Removed the cracked windscreen. Attempted to fit the new one ( with cord, suction cup and another person), and can't even get the new rubber to stay on the new screen. Considerably depleted the world supply of swear words in trying to make the damn thing work. Put old windscreen back as the...

    Hello from the Alps

Right, some pictures.... Pre-starting over-view. Land-rover in a natural state... In bits and full of tools! What was once a bonnet catch. No wonder it was bouncing about a bit! Nothing a wire brush and rattle can won't fix( i.e stop wife complaining about) for the time being. Not...

Replaced the front window seals. Tried and failed to figure out which type of bonnet catch the current bodge is supposed to be, and fitted cable tie as a security measure instead. Measured up to make a spare wheel cover, radiator muff and cubby box. Made up mounting for hi-lift behind the...
