    MOT repair work costs?

Absolutely is, no question - my point was more related to getting and using an MOT tested familiar with LR's.. :)
  5. Disco1BFG

    MOT repair work costs?

This. The tester needs to know LR's, and their quirks.. SWMBO's D1 almost failed an MOT some years ago due to "excessive play in the steering box" - but this was on full lock, where there is a load of play in the box from new .. as I was there, I was able to explain this to the tester...

Not entirely sure how to respond .. So, 1) Gosh. So, er, Disco1BFG is my real name then ? Care to guess my kids names ? o_O 2) Naming of the star predates my screen name by more than a little  3)I wouldn't have a scooby about that - and if there is, it would be nothing...

Have you checked the oils in everything ? - 1st is quite low, and it should pull away quite nicely .. quite a few oil containers to check on a series!

Several of the transistors on the MFU PCB were black - let the smoke out IMO.. to my knowledge there are no regulator chips in it.. Note that these units are >25 years old, "made" by the prince of darkness, and not available new in any way shape or form.. nor repairable to my knowledge ( I did...

    Indicators…

Easiest way to find earth faults is to make a wander lead long enough to get from the battery -ve terminal to everywhere else on the vehicle ... after testing same with a headlamp bulb - to prove it can supply ~5A, you then have a known good earth you can take with you on your search... :) Have...

I don't think yours is a how not to do it guide - it's more of a how to do it to a very high standard / better than new standard :)

Welcome Aboard :) I passed my driving test in a SIIA from 1958, so series landies have a special place in my heart. They are slow, as Turbo says, above - can be improved with an overdrive - one of which is made in your fine country IIRC.. Post some piccies if you will, we like piccies :)

Classic Rev counter / tacho has stopped working

:) Sorry, but this is in your opinion - mine is somewhat different, and my experience is that D1 electronics will not tolerate either 14.7 V OR the SOP of all the regs I have tested ( except the Hitachi ones ) The others allow the voltage to rise to very silly levels when a load is...

    Hi

Welcome Aboard :) Passed me test in a SIIA, so always have a soft spot for them - +1 on the above.. lets have some pics :)

    best discovery

D1 on a galv chassis - completely bullet proof. Either 200 or 300 Tdi - but watch the electronics on the 300's - the MFU's get fried by new alternators with high voltage set points = instant MOT fail due fog lights and such not working  .. If you can't weld, then I suggest either you...

I agree you were lucky on that one too - I'm told that the Hitachi regs fail safe, or at least are designed to do so - given the low price it's a complete no brainer for me. Viz:- https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/hitachi/7825663 Set point 14.0V :)
