I’m sure mine has two earth leads from the battery. One to chassis and one to block. I think the one to the block goes under a timing cover bolt. 🤔

If I get any air in mine it takes several bleeds to run. Often it starts and dies again wanting another half pint of expensive diesel sacrificing to Swarf the god of series. Quite normal for me to bleed-turn over-bleed-turn over.

You could try flattening the end of the cable with a big hammer until it catches. Big hammers generally work in series engineering. I had similar at the gearbox end via the previous bodgers. Strangely the replacement didn’t need beating.

Don’t forget to hold the end up and wrap it in tape. That way when you pour oil down the line to lubricate the cable it goes where it’s ment to and not down your arm. It’ll stop the speedo from bouncing.

Any welder should be able to nail one on. It’s not a huge job. The only advice I would offer is get a galvanised replacement as the other offerings in modern steel don’t last. I know because I’ve had to do mine twice. Managed just six years with the first and it rotted. Not rusted….. rotted.
