This is no doubt the question of a novice. Can I use a 300 tdi engine from a Discovery in my Defender?

Well probably beyond my capabilities. Main issue is finding a suitable engine.

The engine was totally drained of oil. Took dip stick out and nothing there - just smoking. Refilled with oil when cool and it starts but if you leave it to run as it warms up a knocking sound starts. Mechanic advised a pipe taking oil back from air cooler popped off. Must have covered 500...
