Blimey: all I wanted to know was whether there's a Technical/ Service Bulletin or somesuch available in which LR acknowledges the existence of the front tyre fitting/ IRD failure problem.
Clearly not!
Hey ho.
Cheers,
JD.
Thanks - and that's kind of my point. I've got a lot of these kind of references, including this one, yet not one single thing from LR itself. Which is what the tyre chain is asking for as proof that such a failure can arise from incorrect tyre fitting.
If I'm able to produce that, I reckon...
That's the plan - yet I need a primary source from LR that this problem actually exists.
Can't go into court with loads of threads from forums; or with a couple of pages off garage web sites. That's all just hearsay and conjecture, from a proof point of view.
What is so far interesting is...
That's correct - although not conscious of stiffness.
Yes.
All the same notional size. All were Michelin - Synchrones to the rear; and the new ones were Latitudes.
Yes.
Cheers,
Johnny.
Seems not. This from their web site:
"...we do not recommend tyre rotation and we do recommend fitting your best tyres at the rear of the vehicle. If you are replacing a single tyre then this should be paired with the rear with the tyre having the most tread depth".
When I had the old two...
The Freelander is the best-selling 4x4 in the UK ever (I believe): with over 540,000 units of the 1 sold. It is reasonable to expect them to be familiar with it; and rely on them to get it right.
They also offer MoT, service, exhausts and brakes - do they guess at that as well? Does they car...
I wish I could...
Their work - as automotive professionals - was negligent. Lay people are entitled, legally, to rely on the competence and expertise of professionals. The Freelander is the best-selling 4x4 in the UK ever (I believe): with over 540,000 units of the 1 sold. It is reasonable to...
Thanks for that: it's an 'official' LR document about putting new tyres on the front - against manual advice - and what happens if you do I'm trying to locate.
Cheers,
Johnny.
Thanks for your input - appreciated.
Back to the point: I can show they put the new tyres on the front; but I can’t prove it causes IRD failure.
I can find lots of garage sites that say it causes this problem. I can find lots of forums that say it does. I’ve got owners and workshop...
1. Apparently larger radii tyres on the front cause problems because of the way the IRD distributes power differently front and back.
2. They are a specialist - a wheel and tyre expert; I'm a layman relying on their expertise. It's what professionals are for...
3. LR Freelander workshop manual...
My Freelander 1 is 56 plate, approx. 75,000 miles. Last year, I took it to a well-known National Tyre Chain to have my winter tyres removed; and summer ones put on. I had two (old) summer ones in hand; and needed two new.
The National Tyre Chain fitted the two new tyres to the front axle. This...
I seem to be getting putty/ cream coloured oily patches on the drive; roughly in the corners with the worst/ largest around the front nearside wheel.
It's a 56 Td4 Adventurer, 15000 miles.
Any suggestions as to what it could be?
Cheers,
Johnny.
Two weeks into a Td4 Adventurer, 56, with 15 miles. Cracking price. So: have cleaned it; added roof rails and cross bar kit; loadspace protector and (black) armrest. Having a breather from further expense, and then will consider what's next. Cheers.
Johnny.
Thanks for that - followed by another silly question. The manual only makes passing reference to the socket so: will I have one as standard (I don't have a tow bar, the board is to cover a cycle rack); and, if so, where, er, is it? Cheers.
Johnny.
I need a lighting board; and have seen references to 7-pin/ 7-pin connectors and wiring kits for cars without. For the clueless here (me), and before I go shopping: what type do I need and how do I connect it up (Td4 Adventurer, 56)? Thanks.
Johnny.
Just got a Simbars 3-bike rack from John Craddock, which looks like just the job. But: was a bit surprised/ disappointed to find it didn't include securing straps.
Plenty available around - but all seem to start at around 2.5m long, which seems excessive. Can someone recommend a shorter ...
Thanks Steve. Went back today for a drive; and you're right - they look keen. If the Significant Other is happy after her drive later this week; they could be in for a sale (provided I can get them to add a bit of value).
Best wishes,
Johnny.
