    is this legit ???

Unless it was built before 1998, when you could modify as much as you wanted, then i think you're right, even if it's a totally legit bitza, it should be on a Q plate. See here for the full rules: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f43/hybrid-ringer-135513.html

Police AVCIS operation on Ebay sales of V5's/Vin plates but no chassis

This is the relevant bit from the hybrid / ringer thread: I'd thought that provided you had a receipt for the chassis, you'd be all right, but the above appears to suggest that in order to stay within the letter of the law, you couldn't use a second hand chassis. Which is a pretty daft law IMO

Fair point, but can you legally use a second hand chassis? according to the pinned thread at the top of this forum, you can't. or am i missing something here?

Police AVCIS operation on Ebay sales of V5's/Vin plates but no chassis

The seller isn't doing anything wrong legally, i said that all along, but what legal use can any buyer put that bare chassis and the id to? The chassis on it's own hasn't got enough DVLA 'points' to retain it's original ID Anyway, the only reason i posted it was because i thought it *could*...

Police AVCIS operation on Ebay sales of V5's/Vin plates but no chassis

According to the DVLA: (from the hybrid or ringer? thread above) Cars and car-derived vans (this includes Land Rovers) must use: The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same...

He wouldn't be needing the V5 though, would he? the seller isn't selling the chassis, he's selling the ID.

I'd say he was someone who breaks land rovers. The auction for the vin and chassis, the pic of of a complete body + running gear as well, but the description says chassis only, so presumably he's stripping it to sell all the parts Martin is correct that what he's doing is legal, or at least...

I think the comments are about someone they think might have nicked it, not the guy himself.

Police AVCIS operation on Ebay sales of V5's/Vin plates but no chassis

I think it's the buyers, rather than the sellers who are breaking the law when they use the vin plates on a different vehicle. Though even where the vehicle could technically be re built using all new original components or whatever, it's blatantly obvious that this is not what's going to...

Stolen Epsom Green Td5 90, Woodseats, Sheffield 1/2 Dec

I'm guessing that the words redacted from the original post would be clutch claw and disc lock. Presumably some of the scum bags have found a way round them?

yes, i'd be interested to know how that works out. I had the following reply from the F reg TD5 owner to my question as to whether they had any receipts for the parts used to 'convert' it.:

It looks like a ringer to me, there's none of that is f reg, it's TD5 chassis, TD5 running gear, and TD5 body, it's a TD5, someone else's TD5, probably.

This one had me stroking my chin: 200 LAND ROVER 90 WITH ALL TD5 TOP ,ENGINE,GEARBOX, CAB & BACK 200 CHASSIS | eBay an F reg TD5? i wonder if they have all the receipts for those extra parts that have been used to 'convert' it, or was it perhaps converted to a TD5 by swapping the F reg plates...

Yes PM, i think it is the same guy, he was advised to post details on landy watch, it's a tidy truck, real shame for the poor bloke.

Thieves operating in North Yorkshire area.

Just a heads up to say that there's been a number of Defenders stolen in the North Yorks area in the last few days, details here: Land Rover stolen. N Yorks - British Farming Forum Obviously there's a gang operating in that area at the moment so if you live near there keep an extra eye out.
