how often will the VCU & IRD go wronge??

It could be the diff is packing up now. If the IRD / VCU were replaced due to failure then the stress that lew the IRD would have been felt by the rear diff also. It may not have failed then but it was stressed and know its giving out also.

    Freelander not starting and...

No, what Freelance refers to is the ignition switches are known to go defective, such that the main power feed is not energised but the starter circuit is. The engine cranks but won't start. Mine has suddenly cut out because of this little gem. You might need a new switch!!

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Answers: 1 This will take some explaining so bear with me here. With the new tyres on the front and old on the back then the front tyres are larger in diameter compared to the back, therefore the front driveshaft speed is slower compared to the back (The front tyres can cover more ground...

    freelander help please!!

Well, to be honest, you bought a 12 year old car that sounds like it need a lot of work to get it up to scratch again. Its possible buts is going to take a lot of money and its proably not worth it. Trouble is you've spent the cash so there is no easy way forward. By the sound of things I...

    Cleaned my EGR and....

Tis true, a good clean out of the induction system and a good service of the oil seperator is what is required.

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm really considering going for four Latitudes straight on. Reasons are firstly, as per my previous post, messing about with the transmission ratios on the Freelander is easily expensive if you get it wrong and secondly the Synchrones have done 35.000 miles and they...

Oh no, not another tyre question.

There is a thread that is sticky, at my request, regarding the damage that can be done by mixing tyres, especially when fitting new ones to the front. This involved Latitudes and Synchrones. The interesting thing was that the OP reported that there was 4mm difference in the trye diameters...

Oh no, not another tyre question.

Sorry, it is a tyre question but I'm not looking to change from the factory fitted 195/80R15, so no "what the biggest tyre...". Right, me Mich Synchrons are nearly at the end of their life. Started off as new all round. 35,000 miles later, front ones worn more as expected and started...

    Emission problems with 1.8

Just so its absolutley clearly understood, after all the work that G, Chrome and (I'm surprised to say it) BoB have done. 1). Take out old air filter and burn it. 2). Take new filter and fit it. 3). Run catcleaner through the system. 4). DO NOT under any circumstances run the engine...

Typical tractor twonk!! Thinks he can get a gallon of petrol for less than 3 quid. You'll have to compensate for them, they can't count past two!!

Freelander 1 Where to monitor V6 coolant temp

I'd say that the other sensor would be useful to monitor the pipe heading out to the heater matix. The theromstate output will only get hot when the thermostate opens. It would be useful to see what the coolant temperature is doing all the time.

Rear tail gate dooor and window won`t open

The problem is your rear window need recalibrating. The easiest way to do this is to disconnect the battery for 10 seconds, then reconnect. The window 'should' fully open by itself. Now from the drivers seat, fully closing it. Job done.

Very interesting. How many miles on your L series BigDen? Might have to do mine.

Rear tail gate dooor and window won`t open

Its probably a thermistor. If the motor draws too much current the device self heats, which causes its resistance to increase, reducing the voltage across the armature. BTW, good work so far. :D
