    Freelander rear window open

The earlier fobs had the buttons more exposed and easily presssed. If she put the keys straight in a handbag - especially with all the stuff womenz want to hang on their keyring - it can easily be held down by being tightly pushed up against that or any of the mysterious stuff they keep in...

    Freelander rear window open

If ya hold down the unlock button on the keyfob, the rear window drops - it is a feature to allow shoppers to put there wares in without opening the rear door. Raise it by putting the key in the taigate lock and turning to the right - hold there until the window is all the way up. I found...

    Winter mpg and fbh

See how much mpg it costs you waiting for the TD4 engine to warm up without the FBH ! It really doesn't use much, and the very fact it is colder will make yer engine use more fuel anyway

    BMW diesel engine

It has always worried me when I read the horror stories that others have with newer TD4s  Though I have had my fair share of issues  One plus is that the being pre Y reg (March 2001) .. the Auto is only around £200 for Tax Disc being a PLG rather than taxed on the emissions...

    tracking

Well, The steering wheel needed centering - so it was at least a front adjustment. Now, The vehicle was up on a level lift and all four wheels were lazer aligned at the same time. The guy spent nearly an hour (+ paperwork time) under the vehicle constantly re-adjusting the tie rods at the...

    tracking

Last week I put new bushes track rod ends and balljoints in the front, new droplinks and new tyres on my TD4. Transformed the drive ... so much better. Then as I was passing a quiet "main chain" tyre depot I pulled in for a 4 wheel lazer alignment ... mainly to get the stering wheel...

The way you wrote it didn't explain what you meant ..ffs

    My VCU help please

The VCU doesn't "split" the drive like a transfer box. All drive comes out of the IRD - 2 front wheel drive shafts and then a rearward prop to the VCU which is always spinning on that end. When the VCU locks up, drive then travels to the prop on the other side and onwards to the rear differential

    My VCU help please

I'm going with this answer above The Traction Control get's weird if the rear drum brakes are out of adjustment (the auto adjuster is shyte), and can be overwhelmed if all 4 wheels loose grip and, the knocking heard on gearchanges from the back is the rear diff bushes. When all is...

    TD4 Brakes Overheating

Just to point out, there is no compensator valve on the TD4 as all lines run to/from the ABS pump and contoller unit. It may be that the rear brakes are not set correctly - the Automaitic adjusters are crap and belong in the 1960's The front disc brake calipers also suffer from the pin/bolt...

    VCU Bearing Bolts

What's a twist grip socket? Do you mean an Irwin Helical cut Bolt/nut remover like this :- Coz, that's what I would use, and have done with 100% success If that don't work, then you'll have to weld summat on

    Wheels question

The 16" or even the 15" wheel means that the sidewall height is greater. This allows for flex in the tyre and a degree of absorption of deflection from rough farm tracks etc and thus aids in the suspension of the vehicle. However it gives a softer and slightly floaty feel on the road. Larger...

    Wheels question

When you say "bigger" - do you mean wide tyres or larger diameter wheel? It's a "softroader" not a sports car - you don't really need wider than the 215 fitted on the 16" rim In fact, narrower than that is better in the snow etc and... the actual footprint is not much different overall...
