Just to chime in. If you are running the engine and battery voltage is dropping rapidly and more so when increasing idling then you could have dropped a diode or two in your alternator. Diode prevent current from returning to the alternator when charging the battery as the battery will ‘lose’...

Haha a trip to The Highlands is definitely needed last time I went up there was in 2009 and in a Range Rover TDV8 (a ‘works’ car so to speak) it too was black like my TD4. Don’t get to travel like I used to that needs to change… not sure if Greta would like to come along for the trip…

Hello Ross was thinking along those lines but had the exhaust off to carry out all the work under the car. It looked clear so I left it but certainly was on my list etc. car drives beautifully now and has a bit of poke even for 112bhp or whatever it’s meant to be..

Thank you and having done some servicing work I started the car last night and.. no smoke.. anyhoo I went for a ‘test drive’ and didn’t t notice anything untowards..except the offside front brake was binding. Got up early this morning and removed the callipers carriers and fitted new slide pins...

Yes I ditched the ‘upgrade’ filter separator thing. Regular servicing and being a ‘nosey owner’ sticking it where others fear to look. Actually checked all that last night before a short test drive.. I thought I had swapped it over and yes I had done that. No harm done just took 30 minutes etc.
