AndyH the symptoms you describe sound like an airspring has gone bang. you can only really tell which one by jacking the vehicle up and removing the corresponding road wheel. This allows the suspension to drop away from the bump stops and show the spring to a greater extent. Try not to drive it...

If there is no noticable drop in speed when the cruise control is on and the injector light doesn't come on I would be surprised if its the pump. It sounds more like an electrical gremlin elsewhere, I'm not sure if the 98 has one so dont quote me but it could be as simple as a faulty MAF sensor...

Dawes device worked for me. £15 off e-blag and it goes much better than my 4.6 ever did. The sceptics among us will ask for how long no doubt but engines arent that expensive, I'd rather be searching for a diesel engine than a 4.6.;)
