Unfortnately, if it leaves the factory with ABS then it will be checked at the M.O.T. I have the exact same symptons as you, and an impending MOT too. Please post the remedy should you fix it in the next couple of months. regards Red.

Also, may help to split the transfer box from the main box - not a big job but may help with the weight and handling especially when re-fiting

I had a similar problem of belt shredding, turned out to be the tensioner not running true. A very thin plastic shim between the fixed part and the spring loaded part had started to disintergate.
