Symptoms & Repair of Upshift Problems due to Centrifugal Controller/Governor Malfunction
Winfried Schoepf suddenly experienced shift-up problems on his 1989 Vogue Auto 3.9 EFI. He would have to rev up the engine to 4000 until the ZF 4 HP22 decided to...
Found this on the Ashcroft Transmission site:
I have a 4 speed ZF Auto and it sticks in first gear in the morning or when cold and is reluctant to change up from 1st gear. Once the gearbox has warmed up it shifts normally. Why?
The governor valve is sticking, which can be caused by...
I'm not sure but I guess it will be different, there's a hole cut in the bottom of mine where the cd player used to fit.
However if you're replacing all those grey panel fastenings, I'd be very grateful if you could stick a handful in the post as I seem to keep finding missing ones. I'll PM...
Hi,
Thanks for that.
You mentioned leaving the oil in the box and then flushing the box, how would you do this?
Can the governor be cleaned or should it be replaced?
What sort of time are you looking at to do this, a weekend?
Thanks
I was told the keys had to be synch'd to the vehicle, if I could have taken the keys and driven away then why would the technician be too busy to deal with it and make me wait half an hour?
I am going to tart up for the time being but I'd quite like to replace at some point.
If anyone...
Cheers and if I happen to find a supply of beautiful virgin boot panels, fresh from Land Rover in some forgotten cupboard that owner wants to give away to a good home then I'll be sure to get you one. :D
That looked good until I noticed that they have a standard postage of £5.95 for 6 panel fasteners (which cost 49p each) that must weigh no more than 30g, no way I'm paying that.
Cheers I'll give it a go and pop into the local main stealers with my crucifix.
That reminds me was in there getting a new key a few weeks ago and the label has rubbed off my key so don't know the number of it. The parts guy says well we can order a key but without knowing if it's key 1 or...
£50 for a bit of trim
Oh well hope I can find a breakers who want to sell me one, failing that I'll get the glue out.
What about those grey press fixings (that fasten trim panel to the car), where can you get those from?
Cheers
Managed to break the panel covering the subwoofer in the boot of my p38 (damn pop fixing wouldn't come out) anyway now I need a new one and some of those pop fixings.
Does anyone know where I could get hold of the panel (in grey) cheapily. I tried Ebay but couldn't find anything.
I...
Mine seems to run slow when it's cold and is sluggish when changing up between 1st & 2nd, and 2nd & 3rd. It's better when warmed up.
Replaced gearbox oil and filter and still there.
What's next? If there's crap in the govenor what's involved in cleaning that? or is it better to leave it...
Had one but now want a little more comfort and I like the air suspension in the P38 despite what people might say.
Was just a bit sad to see the Classic go.
Well not actually dead but have sold my Trusty clean Classic and I'm a little gutted.
She went on Ebay to a nice guy in Holland who came over today with his wife and they are driving back as we speak/type.
He showed me pictures of a stripped chassis with brand new transmission, gearbox, 4.6l...
I'd like to add my congratulations for probably the most posts in the shortest amount of time, way more than me. :clap2:
Good effort tackling that job straight away, I wouldn't like to have done it. :clap2:
