    Front brake pads

Well, maybe because this is the most (and maybe the only) easy job you can do on a Disco 2. You will see when you'll do it. On the other hand, if i'm not mistaking, the brake pads will come with fitting instructions. If the discs are not badly scored, cracked, they don't wobble (so you can feel...

    Front brake pads

Only one of the caliper bolts needs to be removed. Check this link, for some pics.

    Brakes

what vehicle are we talking about? vented front discs? yes, there are rear break pads with wear sensors as well. why don't u take a peak at the rear pads? if you find that the rear pads are fitted with sensors then the front ones should have sensors as well. so try to find the wires to connect...

    TD5 Locking Centre Diff

£500 plus VAT plus fitting, if you don't DIY. The price was 180+140 (+VAT + fitting) some 2 or 3 years ago ... The important part is the mod in the transfer box. Try to contact other LR gearbox specialists/refurbishing companies in UK and see if you can get a better price. Another option...

The transfer box must be modified. More info here, for example.

Location of Intake Air Temperature Sensor IAT

Basically, alter the Air Temp sensor to fool the ECU that the air is colder (that means is more dense) so it will inject more fuel (because it thinks there is more air in the cylinder) in order to get some tiny little bit more power from the engine. Plenty info on the net, take you pick from...

    Engine underbelly

If this is real and depending a bit on were it was cut/welded I think you can get all you money back if that's an authorized LR dealer/shop. Some pictures will help you in making your complaints, so if you get to shoot some, post them here. Maybe it's a misunderstanding. I still can't believe...

Car not Starting - stranded in France

LATER EDIT: Ok Jason, I stop. I posted about the same time with Jason so I didnt get to see his post in time. I won't delete anything though, might be of help to others (hope won't be needed) Oh, right. I didnt see that announcement, my mistake. They're closing the forums too?! Nice... How...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

So you took your chances with a pre 2002 Disco II (even a 2001 would have been a better choice) but you didn't gamble all the money by having some kind of warranty on it. Good thing that 3rd option. Except for the inconvenience (to say the least) that something went wrong in the middle of your...

    Smoking on start up GGRRRRRR

It's perfectly normal. When the engine starts the starter turns the engine at about 150-200 rpm or so, way below normal idle speed (at least 5-600 rpm when cold). So until the engine reaches 5-600 rpm the governor pumps up more fuel than actually needed in order to accelerate the engine. At...

    Engine underbelly

What:eek:?! What exactly did they cut? I sincerely hope it wasn't the crossmember under the gearbox! Can you post pictures of what was cut/welded?

Car not Starting - stranded in France

hmm, how did I miss this thread when it came out ? Dcooper, if the spider bypass doesn't solve your problem better ask for help from the fellow french landmaniacs (land-rover-maniacs) in the Forum Landmania There are lots of nice people over there. You can read the story of a recent similar...

    Engine underbelly

But how can you be sure you had the plastic shield before taking it to the shop if you can't remember? Maybe you dind't have one in the first place, you lost it in mud, it was stolen. Of course you can bluff and tell them that you did have one, but don't insist on that, you can get it very cheap...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

Rob, now I see your point. In fact I think you shouldn't have bought it in the 1st place. For the main use u specified, I don't think the Disco or any other (permanent) 4x4 is the right answer. The disco is not designed to be a motorway cruiser. As for overtaking without too much planning...

Just put in a new battery - no coil light! DOH??

Unlike the Td5 the 300Tdi starts without the glow plugs even in subfreezing temperatures. Mine started acceptably at -10 C with all the glow plugs dead. His problem is that nothing happens when he gets the key into START position. At least this is my understanding.

My estimate of the probability: 99.99% :D All righty then, since I'm not a native english speaker let me put it into english. Stickybackbob gave you one of the best links on the net on this subject, click on it. In the 1st post you can find out how to diagnose what's wrong, how the dismantle...

    TD5 Head gasket blown.

Rob, you can read about lots of 1999-2000 (and over) Td5s suffering from blown gaskets around 80sh k miles or so. Do a search for <Td5 plastic dowels > or <Td5 head dowels> on the net and you'll find lots of reports. Also for <Td5 blown (head) gasket> (every time without the <>). Read also...

    Td5 HEAVY smoker?

The oil passing the turbo way is unlikely to cause hydraulicking but I was referring (and I didn't say it, oops) to the oil passing the gasket way he was asking about (or the cracked head way). It's easy to rule out the turbo. If it doesn't go the fresh air way nor the exhaust way (or he needs...
