How long is a piece of string?

Hi All, I need to renew the oil seals, wheel bearings and brakes (shoes, cylinders & drums) on the rear of my 88". I have all the parts (I think) but have no idea of either how tricky a job this is or how long it will take to do. While I realise that timing of any job and the perception of...

    Diesel injector leak

Hi All, Long time no see. Had a bit of an extended absence due to real life getting in the way of my Land Rover fun. Back now though and with a distressing number of jobs to attend to on the series 3. So, to start with the most concerning, I've had a series of diesel leaks. First the pipes...

    Light problems

Sounds like a short in the wiring. Perhaps water has got into the spot light bodies? How well sealed are they?

    tempreature gauge

Personally I'd suggest whipping out the temperature sender and checking it's condition. If it looks crappy then replace it, if not put it back and start playing with the electrics.

    Weeping rear axles

Sorry, meant to post an update but have had an enforced absence from the landy for a week or so... Anyway yes, new breather (mine was the small bell rather than the pipes) and no weeping since. Best bang for you buck fix I've encountered yet. Thanks to all for the, as ever, fantastic advice :)

    front lights not very bright

Change vehicle? As far as I'm aware series headlights have 2 settings, "Off" and "Are they actually on?".

    Weeping rear axles

Thanks all. While I was ordering my new heaters I noticed that a new breather is only £3 so I got one. I'll fit it tomorrow and try to recondition the old one.

    Battery power

    Sorry, 105Ah/760CC. From EuroCarParts.

    Battery power

Well, I've ended up with a 100Ah/780CC for just a touch under £90. Once I get my new heater plugs in I'll be able to give it a go :)

    I'm sure Nitemare is 6'+ and it's just a giant landy :D

    Checking heater plugs in place

My heater plugs have died (seemingly suddenly?). I took them out and tested them and 3 out of 4 failed to even become luke warm. So I'm going to replace them, but this raises two questions for me. Not sure from what I've read whether the orange "Cold Start" light should come on when the glow...

Thanks all. Think I might just tow one of these behind...

    Battery power

Apparently the stock battery for the 2.25 diesel is 70Ah, so since my current one is 95Ah that would suggest you can increase both values without too much problem. Does that sound right? In which case perhaps I ought to look to get something with enough oomph to awaken a dead elephant :D...

    Battery power

Hi All, My battery is knackered and won't hold a charge for more than a few days despite me cleaning things up, renewing the water, etc. I'm thinking of replacing it with a maintenance free one, which strikes me as a lazy but good idea. So, I've checked the battery that's on there and it's...

Damn! I could do with a nice cigar too :D

It's an ex-south african military 2a, with some interesting mods.

    Weeping rear axles

As far as I can see neither the LR manual or the Haynes one mention the breathers. They have the older, non-pipe parts shown in the break down and don't mention clearing the breathers.

    Weeping rear axles

I have the Haynes manual and it sucks! I want the LR Workshop one, but have been told it's far to close to Christmas for me to just go and buy it :S Oxides, can I repair/clear/fix the tubes or do I need to just get new ones?

    Weeping rear axles

Thanks for the clarification jamesmartin. Trax...um...breathers? what? where? why? how? Oh, found them in the parts catalogue... what do they do? And more importantly perhaps, how do I check them?

    Weeping rear axles

Hi All, Since doing an oil change in my rear diff a few weeks ago I've had oil weeping slowly out of the hub. It's not a flood, the fluid levels haven't dropped noticeably and I don't think it's a big problem, but I'd like to fix it before it has the chance to become one. I assume there is an...
