    leaking steering box

Hi I have this problem on my TD5. I bought some Lucas power steering sealer, which is really thick oil and added it in. I bought another bottle when it had leaked enough to add some more. It definitely slowed the leak down initially and improved the feel of the steering a little. After...

    Waxoyl Undersealng Company

This looks like the gun I got... CUB1 Underbody Seal Gun - Machine Mart I bought a shutz style waxoly canister and used this to screw onto this gun. I made up a large drum of waxoly & white spirit mix and used this to keep replenishing the Shutz canister. Cheers Andy

    Waxoyl Undersealng Company

I picked up an underbody air gun at my local auto part place that had a flexible hose attachment about 50cm long. The end of this had a 4 way sprayer nozzle which was perfect for getting inside the box sections. The gun was about £12. I saw similar ones on ebay. It's a pretty standard item so...

    Airbags on my TD5

Tony Sorry, I haven't noticed anything like this. I have read that they tend to leak where there is a fold in the bag, to do with the off road raise feature. Maybe this fold collects grit and wears out? I've wondered myself if they can be repaired, like the tubes on a R.I.B, but with them...

    Airbags on my TD5

Hi Tony, I really like the air suspension on my TD5. It's particularly good for towing as the car stays level and I can raise the suspension at the back to help the boat off the trailer. Despite it having a reputation for being unreliable, the parts are relatively cheap and the airbags can...

    Airbags on my TD5

Hi If the garage would put the air back then that would be excellent. You need a compressor, about £300, 2 bags at about £80, off ebay. Maybe just over £100 from LR. The compressor could still be in place. It's on the chassis below the drivers seat. There are also 2 height sensors for the...

    03 TD5 Kangeroo Issues!!!!

Could the wastegate rod need adjusted? I have played around with the length of the arm on my TD5. One turn of the adjuster makes a large difference to the amount of boost. if the adjuster is screwed towards the front of the car (made shorter! ), the boost is increased. I think I have got this...

    What should I look for?

A good idea would be to test drive a few to get a feel for what they are supposed to be like when running well. Even go to a Stealer and get a drive in a low mileage 2004 car , to get an idea on the power, steering feel etc. My TD5 was down on power when I bought it. I had no idea as I had...

Got my new TD5 - couple of questions...

Hi The recommended coolant for TD5 is O.A.T which is orange. If you have 7 seats you will have air suspension but will not be able to lower the car remotely unless you buy the suspension fob and have it configured for the car. It sounds like you are operating the off road suspension raise...

    Disco Td5 2001 - Oil Requirements

If you are going to do the diffs, it would be a good idea to buy brass replacement filler plugs before doing the job. The originals are plastic and might need to be completely mangled to remove. This happened to me. Some excellent info here... www.discovery2.co.uk / Front and Rear...

    Lack of power...

MAF sensor could be on the way out or dirty. I cleaned the element on mine with a cotton bud and contact cleaner. This made a big difference to the car. It seems smoother and more keen to rev. The MAP sensor on the inlet manifold could also be gunged up. Cheers Andy

    Discovery 2 TD5 - Gearstick problem

Hi The lug on the bias plate that the springs push against has snapped. You need a new bias plate for about a fiver or so. Once you get the rivited cover off your juat about there. Once you have the new one in, drive about some to make sure the plate is adjusted right for the 2 -> 3 change...

    TD5 With "issues"

Hi The gear selection issue may just be that your bias plate has snapped. If so this costs about a fiver for the part and a couple of hours to change. It's an easy DIY job. Your gear lever should normally come to rest at the 3rd to 4th gate. If it's at the 1st to 2nd gate then that's a...

    Which Discovery?

Great to hear some positive feedback for a change :) My TD5 has 125K. I've had incremental improvements by blanking the EGR and cleaning the MAP sensor and freeing the wastegate arm. Just recently I cleaned the element of the MAF sensor with some cotton buds soaked in contact cleaner. I...

    td5 remap or chip

Hi It might be worth checking a few things on your car as it could be down on power. There are sensors that can get dirty over time and affect performance. You could try the following... 1. The MAP sensor on the inlet manifold being bunged up with oil. Spray with contact cleaner to clean...
