    Blown turbo

dependng on your expertese levels you can get a new cartridge of ebay for £100 ish. I haver fitted one so cannot guide on how easy or hard it is. I only know as I bought a spare td4 engine as it was cheap at £100. The guy gave me the duff Turbo, I keep meaning to buy an insert and recon it.

    Dave Smith's Freelander

what you need is some Irwin vice grips, in my humble opinion no other grips come close. They have got me out of many a sticky situation. I have had several makes, thrown most in the bin and gone back to these. its a must have tool for a diy mechanic

Freelander 1 Brake pedal goes solid when trying to depress?

The pedal should go down in a couple of seconds. looking like a servo problem. That could be a lack of vacuum via a leaking pipe or the servo is defunct, rare but can happen.

Too much time on my hands

I have a snap on ratchet and breaker bar through work for my 3/8 drive Teng set. The rachet gave up years ago but the sockets have been faultless for over twenty years and they have had some serious hammer over the years. 6 point sets are a god send. Snap on are fantastic tools but expensive.

Freelander 1 Brake pedal goes solid when trying to depress?

could be servo issues, might be as simple as a hose leaking. I f you go sit in the car and press the pedal without the engine running you will find its hard. Keep your foot on the pedal whilst you start the car and you should feel the pedal go down as the servo kicks in.

Freelander 1 Brake pedal goes solid when trying to depress?

I have 3 thoughts. 1 pedal mechanism 2 master cylinder. 3 servo issues Cannot think its likely to be anything further on in the braking system.

    Non-sport springs on a sport...

I dont know for sure but I would expect the shocks are different too. If they are the same shocks then yes you would get the lift.

Looking for advice on front end protection

You kind of need two people, one with hair dryer and one putting on the wrap. Once you add heat it becomes super stretchy. I think it cost me a fiver to do all four, A few months on I found its pretty hard wearing. When I read the OP question I remembered we used to put clear film on the side of...

Looking for advice on front end protection

You could used wrapping material. I used it to cover the door handles that had been scratched. Just use a hair dryer to put it on, then same to remove. Cheap and easily replaced

Freelander 1 brake disc screw for drum and discs

I was taught by a mechanic never to put any type of copper slip or grease any where near brakes. Build them dry as the grease/slip or what ever will only hold the brake dust and make them seize faster. Also whe they get hot the grease/copper slip becomes very liquid and runs into places you dont...
