Stripped the dash this morning & the spider unit has been bypassed, with a land rover harness, Im now thinking it may be the starter relay ? any ideas where it is located ??

I have a 1996 - 1997 300 tdi, on twin button fobs ! looking at various forums , there is a spider unit fitted ! it is located in the centre dash, between the radio & heater ! I will update on this later today as im stripping mine today to repair a fault !

Hi, lights stay bright, mine is the manual version, im led to beleive they are very prone to the spider box faults, is yours a 200 or 300 ?

Im planning stipping the dash tomorrow & opening up the spider unit to repair the dry joints or damaged tracks, do you know what the dealer part works, via the bypass ?

Well I went to start my 300 tdi disco today, never used it for 4 days ! open the doors via the remote, put the key in & after the glow plug light went out, Nothing ! It did not attemt to turn over, loads ov life in the battery & the imobilizer light was out ! looks like the spider unit has given...

Well all fixed, it was the rear donut, that connects the prop to the rear diff ! £22.40 for the part & 20 minutes later, fixed, spot on, no viabrations, no problems at all.

Just in time I think, just hope all is well when I replace it tomorrow & thanks for you input.

Well I have been away fishing tonight & got under the disco to see if I could find anything, The rear donut is donald ducked ! so I guess that that is the start of the repair process, maybe just that ! as it was running excelent & quite 2 days ago with no noises .
