Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Simple really .... I just cannot fathom why over the past 25 plus years the defender has been in production they did not iron out the problems. Instead they ignored them or made them worse eg TD5 chassis - thinner steel, same lousy flick of blackboard paint. Another - again TD5, the fuel filler...

    disco seats into a 90 ??

They fit a treat and are way better than the stock seats - including my mates 2012 XS. I have a sub under the drivers seat and cap heads to remove in two minutes the passenger seat. One of the best mods I have done, yesterday I drove for five hours straight without a single moment of...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Just as an aside even if the clutch was slipped this would not be relevant to the failure of the component. The truth is Defender spares are cheap and often for a good reason, they are crap. I appreciate all vehicles have there failings and foibles but Land Rover sure made a crap job of...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Unlike Lowlights I am the only driver of the car whilst this particular plate has been in service and can tell you in absolute truth the car has never had its clutch slipped in any of the 20,000 miles it managed before collapsing. Unlike some I always pull away in 1st so on this point you...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Mike The failed unit above is another Britpart HD clutch, they have eight springs and this may be part of the problem, along with poor quality metal that allows the rivets to pop through the retaining plate. Trust me on the history of my Britpart HD clutch - Fitted in Sept 09 to my P&J...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

When I just read YOUR post I realised you are talking out your dumb arse! Go put your glasses on and have a better look. Or quit talking ****. The clutch has never been slipped and the friction material when measured against the new AP with a micrometer was almost the same - virtually no...

    Fed up?

I have a fair bit of sympathy for the OP on this thread. I have done less than 25,000 miles in Daisy (110 Defender) and I reckon in modifications/improvements and repairs I have spent the better part of £8,000. Currently in agony from pulling a muscle changing the clutch assembly plus...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Hmm - I did an extensive trawl of the forums before fitting the HD ****part Clutch Kit and those who had fitted them were happy. No one wishes they had bought an AP/B&Beck version more than me now. I hate working on this bloody car. On the plus side now the clutch is quite a lot lighter...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

The failed clutch always chattered at tick over - which was annoying but a known issue, for the few weeks before it self destructed it started making a 'tinkling' metallic sound that had me beat as to the source (paranoid - I thought little ends) but has now entirely gone with the new clutch (as...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

The details have gone back to Paddocks to be sent over to Britpart. I will leave it with them until the end of the week. Car may have only done 20,000 miles on this clutch but it was fitted in September 2009 - so I will await their comments. Ultimately the cost of this part and a refund if it...

Arrghh Britpart HD clutch. Made of toffee

Despite being aware that a lot of Britpart stuff was cheaply made I trawled the forums and took the view that when it came to their HD clutch plate there was nothing to fear. Big mistake. Despite having been fitted to a 110 that is driven with more tenderness than Miss Daisy and less...

    New defender (again)

Landrover have form for releasing design exercises that hardly change when they go into production. I reckon this is what they will make (or pretty much). Where they make it and what it costs is anyone's guess. Like the Wrangler it evolved and the new Wrangler is a pretty good bit...

    New defender (again)

Amongst the many questions about the new Defender the 'will you build it any better than the old one' must top the list. Truly appalling build quality and frankly design. Defenders remind me of the old Mini - rusty, no development that did not come from legislation and a contempt for their...

    New defender (again)

Well I for one reckon it looks pretty cool. Might even make a few diehards think again.

Clutch no longer releases - feels normal?

Done this and the clutch does not disengage. Would having the diff locked cause the same problem some how? I do not think it was but I did have use of it, if it was locked it travelled 200 miles and gave not one indication of it being on.

Clutch no longer releases - feels normal?

The spring is not this weight - as I say the weight of the pedal is the same ... I think or a little heavier. Action is progressive and really feels the same as before ie. bloody heavy when you actually stop to think about it. I am lost as to what has happened, all I know is changing it was a...

Clutch no longer releases - feels normal?

No - looked fine so left it. Would this failing not make the pedal feel very different though? The pedal feels as though its pushing against the pressure plate as per normal.

Clutch no longer releases - feels normal?

Sunday night and two miles from home having spent a few days in Norfolk and covered 350 miles and the car will not change gear. First I could not move the lever - as if it were stuck - I was in fifth and then when I got it out of that gear and tried to put into third a crunch, the gears...

Another Ebay 'darling'. Legit or blatant ringer?

To me it looks like a Td5 that has been modded - essentially a Td5 still with an illegal V5 which itself has not even been updated. The rest is just hogwash to attempt to cover up what I have no doubt would see you at best being given a Q plate and some awkward questions and at worst the...

Another Ebay 'darling'. Legit or blatant ringer?

Not sure who is on what 'high horse' here? For myself I threw this in because it is relevant to lots of posts on here about concerns regarding theft (parts and complete cars) and what happens to them afterwards. Ebay routinely has vehicles that to my cynical eye look dodgy - I popped...
