couple of days before completion of rebuild

Great job! Did you do it all yourself? Looks like a few quid have been spent!

90 build up, creating a soft top!

Nice work there. I like the idea of an adaptable hood full soft/bikini connected by a zip..... Am planning to do something similar for mine later in the summer. Keep the pics coming!

    Chassis welding, fabrication

I cut alot of patches for my chassis. Started off with a grinder and hacksaw but ended up using a jigsaw with 'bosch aggressor' metal cutting blades. So long as you keep the blades well oiled they last forever. Good control, accuracy, no finishing required.....

    RAMBIRKETT 90 Tinkering Thread

That's good progress for the time you've been working on it! Top job. What size tyres are they?

    Arch spats - matt

So I'm nearing completion of my build. I bought some 2012 new take off matt arches from eBay for £25.... But can I find matching rears anywhere? No. Dealerships tell me matt arches for utility type vehicles are NLA. All they now offer are primed arches or gloss black arches. Aftermarket...

How to fit a 90 into a standard! garage

Same thing. I found the hardtop roof scraped the garage door on the way in... once fully in the door dropped back down thus rendering the Landy wedged in! Thankfully with a bikini top on I can drive in & out desite the slope... but the full soft top requires removing before exiting...

All I wanted to do was Paint the Rear Cross Member!

Mine was just like that. In fact, the rear outriggers didn't exist inside the chassis! You can repair it - If you really want to! I wanted the practice so took my time and welded in nearly 1.5 sqm of fresh steel in the correct gauge. New chassis is definately the long term solution but it all...

    Defender Door repairs.

Bought my repair channels from eBay. Seller was spglobalparts. Very happy with both parts and seller. But following what you've said... It's more than a days job to chop, prep, weld, prime and paint if you include drying times! G'luck!

    Best bulkhead removal bar?

Yeah and the water when it's raining and you haven't got the hood up in time! That said, the tubular one does the job very well and is a bit more 'factory' than the mud version.

Smitten With a 90 On eBay...

Black one is a bit too Lara croft for me Red interior has some nice workmanship that should have been left in the alfa. Might have to borrow the black ones bumper & sliders.

    Billy's budget defender project

Painted mine the bronze green too. Nice choice! I went for 6mm fluted rubber mat in the back. Bloody expensive though if you just buy a roll for that. A genuine moulded lr mat is expensive but certainly looks the part. Keep up the good work!

    Painting axles

I've been through a few rust killers and converters over the years including kurust and jenolite but recently have been impressed beyond expectation by: Corrosion Protection | Award Winning Mineral Acid Rust Removers - Bilt-Hamber UK Just wish I'd found it before I painted the axles..... Buy...

    Painting axles

Do not rely on hammerite to protect from rust on its own. I wire brused mine clean with a grinder then applied a couple of coats of hammerite as per instructions on the tin. My rebuild has been slow to say the least, but i was disappointed to see rust coming through the paint after less than...

    1986 defender door cards wanted

Nowt. Unlike most landie bits.... The doorcards once gone are gone. I did weigh up trying to rebuild mine with fg and then retrimming the facades but its just too much work and would easily top six hourswork to fix properly. Whose brilliant idea was it to use wood pulp?! So.... Anyone tried...

    1986 defender door cards wanted

They're on.ebay.... I need some too but at £160 a pair it's difficult to justify. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=260911635204&index=7&nav=SEARCH&nid=38230456295 Anyone know where the late model cards differ? (As theyre half the price) Possible to make them look factory?

    Bloody rot!

What he said..... You could cut it back then have someone tig weld a new ally piece in... But seeing as it isn't structural I'd just patch it over neatly so as not to alarm an ill informed MOT tester.

Anyone fitted an alarm central locking system?

Actuators? If you're talking about the c/l motors then they won't have been Toad as they don't even make motors!!! They'll have been another brand that the fitter chose to use..... Sounds more like an iffy fitter to me. I've had a lot of experience with toad and always found them to be...

Anyone fitted an alarm central locking system?

Toad ai606. Very reliable and as secure as they can be.... All depends on the quality / ingenuity of your fitting. Bout £100 from ebay new & boxed. I'd never buy a s/h alarm unless I'd seen it working and removed it myself. Done 3 in the past to various cars and always been happy. Am soon to be...

help! will these wheels fit my 90?

No... They're quite specific nuts. Quite a narrow OD and a tight fit to get over the lack of hubcentric. Look good though.
  20. A

help! will these wheels fit my 90?

yes.... but they'll rattle on the hubs a bit and won't be 'hub centric'. You need the correct Compomotive bolts too and they're very difficult to come across if they're not with the wheels already. Without hubcentric, they're a pain to bolt up as you have to hold them central over the studs to...
