As the title suggests, I am looking for information on alarm/locking systems.

Does anyone have any experience, any pros and con's are these kits reliable enough? I'll not buy a Hong Kong special for £20, it will be a decent kit.

Get a CAT 1 alarm (and optional central locking) fitted by a pro, It'll be a better job and slightly reduce your insurance.

Toad ai606.
Very reliable and as secure as they can be.... All depends on the quality / ingenuity of your fitting. Bout £100 from ebay new & boxed. I'd never buy a s/h alarm unless I'd seen it working and removed it myself.

Done 3 in the past to various cars and always been happy. Am soon to be fitting the s/h unit I have from the scrapped disco. CL will be done in addition. I like to use spal cl kits.

I fitted a remote start viper alarm and a cheap C/L kit from eBay ( it was about 15 quid, 4 actuators and a relay box no remote as the alarm fob is the remote) works like a charm :)

this is what im looking on doing soon but just going get a cheap ebay one with central locking as long as it makes a noise to alert me im happy :)

When i bought my 90 it had central locking fitted. It never worked properly and i suspect it was not the more expensive kit.

The problem i found is that the cables going into the door had not been routed properly and had got flattened and caught in the door hinge. I decided to disconnect the system from the door mech actuators.

when i had the alarm fitted they tied it into the central locking so i dont want to mess with the wiring.

If your going to do it then definitely try and protect the cabling going into the doors and also just make it neat and easy to understand for future buyers etc.

I would avoid the toad systems as y old man had one, great for about 4 years then the actuators packed in then the receiver died, waste of money in my opinion, go for a s/h genuine lr unit

Actuators?

If you're talking about the c/l motors then they won't have been Toad as they don't even make motors!!! They'll have been another brand that the fitter chose to use.....

Sounds more like an iffy fitter to me. I've had a lot of experience with toad and always found them to be bang on. Year after year.
