Other what have u done on ur disco today

I think my truck has already been mapped (Prior to my ownership) but I’m not sure, it goes like off a shovel as it is but they are supposed to be the best and have happy customers all over Europe and they are doing a mapping session not that far from me so thought why not go for it. mileage is...

Thank you for the reply, coming from you, I will happily take that advice without a seconds thought. I shall get a new one ordered.

Other what have u done on ur disco today

Not today as I’m working but over the last week I’ve done the “option b” bypass on my shuttle valve which led to me having to bleed the entire break system... Disabled the EGR. and drained/refilled the auto ‘box oil. on the list next is engine oil/filters change (once the spanner’s arrive)...

My power steering pump is leaking, progressively getting worse, as it the wining it makes... is it a rebuild or replace job?

Well, things are happening at a pace lately! Today was the turn of the auto ‘box oil. I have no idea when this was last changed but judging by the colour of it, a horrible brown-black, it’s not been done for a long time! I’ve simply drained and refilled for now. I’ll do this again in a couple...

That makes a nice change, something went well! Attacked the EGR today. Due to concerns with the British MOT rules, I’m not keen on fitting an after market EGR bypass/replacement so I thought I’d take it off and see what I could come up with. Did you know that the exhaust inlet on the EGR is...

What a w****r that was! Over the last 6 months or so I’ve had three out of four wheel bearings/hubs replaced after a succession of failures. Only the O/S/R left to go now... A month ago I had a power steering hose wear through so abandoned it at the garage for them to sort it out for me as I...

Thanks Henry! Also thanks for the prod that I haven't actually added to it in some time... Basically, not long after my last post here my abusive wife was removed from my house by the police and I've spent much of the last year trying to sort myself out and get divorced from her... It's been a...

    New to Discoverys

    1) 18” will have a smaller max tyre size than 16”. Ultimately rim diameter makes no difference to max tyre size/wading ability. Getting a suspension lift will allow bigger diameter tyres therefore increasing your wading depth a bit. 2) whichever one you get, make sure it is properly sealed and...

    Disco 2 Rear spring conversions

My D2 was converted to springs before I brought it. I’m planning on going back to air in the not too distant future. I nearly got stuck green laning and had I been able to raise the arse a couple of inches then I’d have been out easily. Also I have a hobby that requires loading up my truck a bit...

    Disco 2 Rear spring conversions

I’m sure it wouldn’t be a difficult thing to rig a LED on the dash to show when the compressor is running. I could understand changing to springs if planning to go overlanding to reduce risk of breakdown but I really don’t see the benefit of going backwards technology wise...

    Middle row seat

I have a similar but intermittent issue with my left side rear seat. I just soak the catches with WD40, leave it ten minutes and hey presto. I keep meaning to get a can of white spray grease to hopefully make it a more permanent fix but as I only fold the seats half a dozen times a year I’m not...

    Radio ga ga

I can finally answer this part having eventually gotten around to tackling it. There are two wires from the steering wheel one white and one purple. One connects to the brown ground wire in the main power plug loom and the other to the “key 1” wire from the main power plug loom. It’s an...

    Performance Remapping/ Performance Chip

As above, if you’re gonna do it, do it right. Go to a reputable remapper and get it custom mapped. They will take into account the specifics of your vehicle (including any weak links) and get both the best out of it without over stressing it. Plug in units are a “works for all” job but may...

    Discovery Ace pipe removal

Yes the rams/actuators will waste some oil but it won’t cause the truck to sit unevenly. Just place some sort of drip tray down to catch the waste. I’d be interested in the cost/ease of the replacements. I’m slowly working towards a chassis replacement and I’ve been thinking along these lines...

    Td5 using excessive fuel

I use an app called fuelly. Very good for tracking fuel use, the important bits of it are free to use. To give you some idea, My 2004 TD5 D2 is currently averaging 22.2 MPG. I'd notice straight away if my MPG went down due to this app.

Reputable Land Rover centres Mid Devon

Depends which part of Devon. I'm guessing that Devon 4x4 is probably the best known one in South Molton. There is a good one in Taunton that I use, Country Rovers. I'm happy to recommend them. It may help if you give a better general location tho...

    Any Radio Hams out there

I can comment about the location in a freelander but I’ve got my quad band installed in my D2. I went for a ‘remote head’ type (TYT TH-9800) so that I could ‘loose’ the bulk of the radio out of the way and just have the controls visible/available. I ended up with the head above the sun-visor...
