Although there's still a mountain of jobs to do, I bought my FL1 for a bit of fun and as such am looking for tips on where to best mount a VHF/UHF set. I want to be able to see the read out, there's a space to the left of the instrument binnacle that looks promising. Any suggestions accepted.

G6 NPR here! Can't answer your question though as haven't fitted mine permanently. I was loooking at fitting it vertically inside the arm rest box with a small notch for the mic cable?? Out of sight is key I think. 73's.....

I had an HF / 10m mounted to the left of the gear stick.

I must get around to sticking a dual band in there. I ran an independent power cable through from the battery.

@andyfreelandy what antenna have you used... there are just so many dual band antennae available... I have a half decent pl259 mag mount fit.

I have a portable UHF CB Radio. The charging unit makes a good base for it when in the car and it can just sit on the dash.

I haven't got an external antenna yet, but I might do at some point.

I can comment about the location in a freelander but I’ve got my quad band installed in my D2. I went for a ‘remote head’ type (TYT TH-9800) so that I could ‘loose’ the bulk of the radio out of the way and just have the controls visible/available.
I ended up with the head above the sun-visor and the brick is hidden behind the panel under the steering wheel. It makes for a fairly tidy setup.
