Hi can someone advise i am going to start and remove my Ace pipe system having brought a modified block and convert to hydraulic hose my question's are I want to strip it in stages so keeping the pipe work so it can be measured for hose if I jack up car at back and remove rear pipe and block then lower back down and remove front pipes would I loose fluid from rams don't like idea of working with complete side on stands don't want to rush job also don't have luxury of garage or drive thanks
 
Ram pipes just make them 2m long
Thanks was going to take old pipes to a hydraulic pipe company near me to get made up though keeping the same ends on them that go to rams with new washers but my question was if I remove the rear pipe work of the ram and then lower the car so I can raise and work at the front would I loose fluid from rear ram or suspension drop thanks
 
Remove the ACE relay and then the fluid loss shoiuld be minor cos the DCVs(directional control valves) are supposed to be closed and the fluid to be recirculated between the valve block and reservoir... provided that the DCVs are not leaking, you'll loose fluid from the actuator and that side will be floppy but not a killer

Thanks it was just my concern that if I jack up the rear on axle stands to remove the rear pipe work then lower it back down to remove the front pipe work leaving no block or pipe work on vehicle would the rams leak or suspension lower once back on wheels till I get hydraulic hoses made thanks
 
The rams will leak cos they are like a syringe inside, better buy new banjos and clamp the pipes near the old ones untill you have the new pipes prepared and then the vehicle will behave like on conventional anti roll bars as the rams will be ''locked'' with the oil inside

Thanks that's what I thought car is off the road at moment till this job is done will be replacing fluid as well just thought that when I put car back on wheels not driving would rams leak with no pipe work there or would there be a problem if they weeped till hoses made thanks
 
Yes the rams/actuators will waste some oil but it won’t cause the truck to sit unevenly. Just place some sort of drip tray down to catch the waste.

I’d be interested in the cost/ease of the replacements. I’m slowly working towards a chassis replacement and I’ve been thinking along these lines for the re-build.

Thanks hopefully going start tomorrow weather permitting got a modified valve block from e-bay £420 p+p 5 litres of Ace fluid from westway oils e-bay £35 my plan is take existing pipes off and have them made in hydraulic hose but cutting off and reinstalling the ends that go to the rams with new dawdy washers don't know about engine bay pipes yet will have to investigate only replacing as one pipe forward of the outrigger is leaking so hopefully will future proof the system
