    CHECK THIS: Shafted shaft!

I checked out my front propshaft today after a heavy clunk in the carpark, and excessive lash when shifting. When I saw it I crapped myself - I reckon this was 200yds from destruction... No point in refurbishing, I think the shaft will be knacked after this. I've had a lucky escape, I think. Jock

    Concerned

Cheers biglad, I wasn't sure if the VC would effectively act as a CDL in the event of the front shaft being removed. If not, then as you say I'll need to lock the diff manually. (Will have to find out how to do that, unless you can happen to say...) I checked out the front shaft today. I shat...

    Concerned

Can anyone properly advise if you can drive a Disco 2 with no CDL without the front prop shaft? If this thing is proper buggered I need to get it back to the dealer somehow! I see the thread below on another forum, and they can't make up their mind! Cheers, Jock Driving without front drive...

    Depressurising SLS

Come off it! That's a bit steep! I'd take £40.

Cheers Urban, I'll check it today. When noises get louder and a noise starts, then you know something has changed, which is usually another step nearer destruction. Will check play on everything. Jock

    Wheel vibrations

I had this on my last Rangie. Replaced front bushes, steering ball joints and steering damper, that cured it although I'm not sure which it was - they were all shot I think.

    Concerned

Having done me back suspension and being chuffed at the huge improvement in the ride, I've managed to bugger something else. I've only had the motor a month, and it's always been a bit noisy switching from Drive to Reverse and back, but I put it down to a bit of transmission lash. Today I put...

    New springs'n'shocks

Got my two Dunlop "Pnueride" springs on today, along with two new Bilstein B6 gas shocks. Special offer from Paddocks. Job went fine, except the first side took me about an hour due to a total schoolboy error... Fitted the spring before the shock absorber, which meant I couldn't drop the axle...

    Depressurising SLS

Thanks for the advice. After prolonged consideration, and a computer-based SWOT analysis, I punched a bradawl through the spring and it did the trick fine. It makes a small hole, so the decompression isn't too quick. No going back, mind you... Jock

    Depressurising SLS

Aiming to fit 2 new air springs and Bilstein B6 shocks tomorrow. I've searched the forum and read the RAVE and it should be not too bad. BUT, can anyone confirm the easiest and quickest way to depressurise the system? I've read once to back-off the air pipes at the compressor then re-tighten...

    New Rangie

Ok, gave her a good warm-up today. Started her up, she coughed and died. So I detached the intake at the filter inlet and went for a drive. When she was properly warmed up went hom. Idled no problem at all. Then I reconnected the intake and there was still no problem! So don't know if the...

"Preventative maintenance" Heh heh... It'll be a first for me, I can tell you.

    New Rangie

Thanks for the tip, obvious really. Got her warmed up today with a blast up the road to gas-up and then pop into B&Q. She wouldn't repeat the bad idle, but when I opened the hood there was coolant ****ing out the filler cap. I hope I just didn't put it back on properly... Will check out once...

    SLS Air Spring Replacement

My '03 Disco-2 works just fine at the moment. But she's done 50k nearly, and the bags look perished, so I thought I'll be a smart arse and replace them with smelly new Dunlops. Books says that vehicle must be recalibrated afterwords with blocks to ensure vehicle is level with correct ride...

    New Rangie

Collected the new Rangey at the weekend - 1991 3.9EFI Vogue (see pictures). She has a 2" lift, steering guard, diff guards, 15" steels and insa turbo remoulds, and a raised intake. I bought her as an off-roader, and am in the process of checking all the mods the previous owner has done. So far...

    p38 ownership

P38's are really great cars. Not a huge amount of money, but a lot of car. Everyone will tell you the same: they need alot of care and maintenance. You can do most things yourself with modest tools and facilities. Some jobs can take a long time simply because they involve trying to trace a...

    Ha Ha I'm Back

You can't get rid of me that quick. I sold my '99 P38 but couldn't stave off my range rover addiction so i've bought a '91 3.9EFi while drunk. Should collect tomorrow, will check out and report back. Gas guzzling horror stories that they are... you gotta love 'em...

    XYZ Switch

I think I have a problem with my gear selector switch. When I move it into "D" sometimes I get a red light by the stick and a "D" on the dash. Then it goes out, but with very gentle pressure on the stick it comes back. Not sure yet whether the switch is faulty, or if it just needs adjustment...

Awesome vehicles foss. I notice you got a 40mm air bag spacer on one of your Disco's - can you tell me which one you used? I am struggling to find a decent one that doesn't cost the earth - more than a spring conversion! Thanks mate. Jock

    Disco 2 Seatbelts

Is it just me, or are the seatbelts on the last two rows too short? My mate's 5yo was desparate for a go, so we put her in and could only just get the buckle in! The reel runs fine, and the other belt is the same. God only knows if I tried to get any of my swollen-bellied mates in there! Is...
