    Help please! Ignition fault.

"When I hook up jump leads to another car, the fault clears" Well, this would seem to indicate either poor connections to your own battery or internal battery fault?

    Tailgate door seal replacement

The rear door can be released from inside once the trim panel is off using a hook fabricated from strong wire, tent peg/ skewer are good. look at the door release linkage which is operated by a solenoid. The hook is used to pull the linkage manually.

    Help please! Ignition fault.

It's certainly an odd one. My guess is that the flashing lights/clicking relay are due to the current flow being interrupted as a poor connection in either the earth or live line is creating heat which breaks the connection, cooling then takes place and the current flows briefly once again. I...

No battery clamp!! What should be there?

"to replace what was the captive bolt I used a roofing J bolt and wingnut" My kind of lateral thinking. Well done Alan.

    Help please! Ignition fault.

"Dashboard lights flashing & relay clicking noise from engine fuse box area" When does this occur? Always? Ignition ON? Whilst attempting to crank the engine? Have you checked the battery voltage? (e.g do the headlamps appear to be normally bright?)

    Engine Cooling Fans wont stop!!

As you refer to 'fans' I guess the vehicle has A/C, in which case a minor connector fault at the A/C pressure switch or indeed a faulty open circuit pressure switch would give similar symptoms. Does the A/C ,if fitted, operate normally?

TD4 cold starting problem - senior help pls!

The car requires "winding up to start" when cold (20+ centigrade so not glow plugs!) this consists of some 5-7 seconds of cranking before it "catches", across all 4 cylinders Observe the exhaust tailpipe whilst an assistant cranks the engine from cold: No smoke at all until the engine...

    Brakes randomly failed :s

How long since the brake fluid was changed? Old brake fluid can be lethal as the proportion of water absorbed over time can be very high causing boiling of the fluid at relatively low temperatures ie moderate braking.

    td4 fuel leaks pressure problem!!!!

Hi. Looks like the fuel pressure is too high on the low pressure side of the system. It should be 29 to 35 psi and is controlled by a pressure relief valve located in the pipework which branches off from the fuel filter output line. Beyond this valve the pipework returns to the fuel tank...

    Uneven idling, TD4

Idle speed on modern 'fly by wire' diesel engines relies on a stable signal from the throttle position sensor. Take a look at the top of the throttle pedal to ensure that the sensor or associated wiring is not loose etc.

    Fuel Rail Sensor

Agree with previous reply: A good electrical contact cleaner spray from Maplin will do the job.

TD4 Intermittent Problem... dies and sometimes wont start

Quote: "Something else I noticed is that the engine management light doesn't come on (at key turn) on the occassions that it won't start. If all the lights come on, then the engine management light comes on and then goes out, it always starts." As the engine management light is controlled by...

    Clacking Freelander

I'm thinking: intermittent wiring fault- known culprits are connections to rail fuel pressure sensor and injector harness for which a replacement section may be available via LR. I would also check the connections to the throttle position sensor under the dash. I take it there are no stored...

Fuel Pump, filter, both? How do I tell?

The main clue here is fuel level. Your TD4 is early enough to have two low pressure electric fuel pumps 1. In tank 2. n/s inner wing below fuse box and next to the fuel filter. A quick check will confirm. If this proves to be so then I would guess that the in-tank pump is faulty and therefore...

    Spotlight wiring for freelander 1

Front bumper removal first time is usually a pain and often requires a hacksaw blade to chop out corroded OE fittings. Reassembly with stainless screws/ bolts and plenty of grease makes this a 5 minute job for the future. Spotlamp/driving lamp wiring: 28/030 cable throughout. Standard...

    starting problem

A test lamp or multimeter should be connected to the energising (smallest) solenoid terminal, each time the key is turned to start position this should show battery voltage. If not or a very intermittent response then the ignition switch is possibly faulty (quite common now) however there is...

    Fuel Burner Heater

    Tailgate handle problem

Sounds like the door may not be closing fully (hence the door springing open when you press the handle and the door open beep) There's lots of things you could try but as I don't know if you are a 'hands on' diy type owner and this being a safety related problem I can only suggest professional...

    Troublesome T

Hi, The 'roof off' microswitch is probably not staying engaged. This switch is designed to signal 'roof removed' which initiates the tailgate window fully lowering, for safety reasons. The microswitch is at shoulder height on the drivers side on the diagonal where the removeable roof section...
