Doesn't sound like a code issue, you sure it's not power related, maybe pulsing off the alternator??

Change stat, make sure its properly bled of air and make sure your rad core isn't restricted

Depends how much stuff you want to carry and how big your wallet is LWB are capable off road, I prefer SWB...... 1983 LWB doesn't have an ECU :D

dont know if it helps but I head an old mk1 fiesta that did this when it was warm / hot, turned out is was fuel starvation / evaporation. I re-routed the fuel line away from the gap between the inlet manifold :confused: and it worked ok Like I said, it may not help but is it worth a try?

Does it smell burnt though? To be honest I'd start with an oil and filter change in the gearbox. The only problem you'll have is I think you have to remove a cross member to get the gear box sump off to change the filter.
