What thread spec for rocker cover bolts?

Cheers Alex. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the fast response. I've just posted another question over in the RR forum relating to parts and part nos; if you could assist I'd be very grateful. Cheers. Turtled.

    Britpart oil cooler question...!

Hi. I've just taken delivery of a replacement oil cooler radiator for the transmission oil in my 2000 P38 4.6 V8. I had to remove the old one to change the camshaft, and one of the oil hose connecting nuts sheared the thread flat when I was unscrewing it from the rad - hence the new one...

What thread spec for rocker cover bolts?

Hi again. I'm wanting to get some replacement rocker cover bolts (I managed to lose some). I guess I have 2 questions really, firstly does anyone have the LR part number(s)? Different lengths?? Second, can anyone tell me the correct thread spec and lengths for the bolts? (this is so I can...

ARP head bolts / studs - What torque?

Thanks Vougese39. Hoping to get to that tonight. I've been asking ARP for that info since last Thursday and it's been like pulling teeth... It took less than 6hrs on this forum! :D I did eventually manage to drag an answer out of ARP (it arrived 1/2 hour after Vougese's reply after...

    Which v8 camshaft?

No, the cam was £250. I've kept the original heads - just a bit cleaner than they were...

Reassembly - What do I out on the threads?

I've just realised my schoolboy typo in the thread title - sorry all - should read "put on the threads". I can't seem to edit it. In a nutshell, clean everything, lube headbolts - lightly, and threadlock on everything else. Happy days.

    Which v8 camshaft?

I've got a Kent H180 for my 4.6. I'm planning to install tonight, so I can't tell you anything about the result, but it was the one I chose. I'm told it is a straight swap - fingers crossed - and should improve power by about 20bhp and fuel economy at the same time. I'm also assured it ticks...

Front cover - Should I use gasket sealant?

2nd question of the day.... P38 4.6 V8 2000 I'm planning to get the front cover cleaned up and re-fit tonight. Should I be fitting the gasket dry, or with sealant? The workshop manual doesn't mention sealant, but I'm not sure which way to go.... Cheers in advance :)

ARP head bolts / studs - What torque?

Hi, yet another question... one of two today... I've got a set of ARP head studs from Real Steel. The set doesn't come with instructions (oddly), and I've seen a few different opinions on torque settings for these bolts. I was going to do the 180 degree thing, but because the thread is a...

Reassembly - What do I out on the threads?

Thanks for the answers guys. Got myself some threadlock and the pukka ARP head bolt lube. Hoping it all goes smoothly from here...!

Where to get parts for 4.6 rebuild

I just bought a bunch of bits from Turner Engineering. Very reasonable prices, excellent service, and next day delivery. A lot of their stuff seems to be genuine LR, but cheap prices - ring them and they'll explain. I'd happily recommend them to anyone based on my experience so far.

    Snow is coming!

Hippo - I've got 20" rims off a RR Sport on my P38, with ridiculous wide, low profile tyres. They're crap in the snow / ice. Arguably better than a 2WD car and standard tyres.... but still not great. I had a bit of a mishap a couple of years ago (the year everyone ran out of grit...), and...

    Hesitant battery change

My battery has been on its last legs for about a year - particularly when cold, so I've just ordered a new one this morning from Battery Megastore - as per Datatek's spec. The price has gone up a touch - now £99.95. Just a warning though, if you follow the website's battery finder for a P38...

Reassembly - What do I out on the threads?

Hi again. Sorry to bug you all with random questions, but I'm hoping to start putting my engine back together in the next day or two and need some more advice... I've seen reference to putting 'stuff' on bolt threads on various things I've read; I get it for the CH bolts, I've ordered some...

How do I get the crankshaft pulley bolt off?

Jon. I forgot to say earlier, that sounds like a genius idea to try if I'm doing this without the heads off - cheers for the input. I think I'm too chicken to do the starter motor trick!

How do I get the crankshaft pulley bolt off?

Now you say!!!! I've come up with an alternative method - well to be honest it was my Dad - who's a bit handy with these things. Anyway, bearing in mind that my heads are off at the moment, the method we used was to drop a block of wood into one of the cylinders, then bolt another sturdy...

How do I get the crankshaft pulley bolt off?

Hi all. Yet another bolt problem...! (The car is a 2000 P38 4.6 V8). I'm wanting to get behind the front cover to get at the timing chain, camshaft etc. I'm stuck because I can't work out how to get the crankshaft pulley bolt undone. Given that I've not got a spare £150 kicking around...

    Cylinder head update...

I understand better now... the heatshields were a nightmare to get off, so I can't imagine the refit in-situ would be any easier... so that's a top tip - Cheers. Having said that, thinking about it, presumably if I put it all together complete with inlet manifold I won't be able to use the...

    Cylinder head update...

Is the rest of it healthy... are you having a laugh?? Its a P38! Seriously though, I'm pretty smitten with it. :D Its a great car (when its working), the LPG has been running sweet as a nut since I got it properly sorted a year or so ago, black with cream leather and wood and...
