    p38 range rover engines with hydraulic lifters should be run on 10w40 or 15w40 mineral oil and should be changed every 3000 miles. the design of the engine does not lend itself to needing synthetic oils just regular oil and filter changes.

    metal filings in the filter are as serious as it gets, engine needs to be removed and stripped to ascertain the problem as a early fix could save the cylinder bores from damage as they are Aluseal and are very expensive, if you need any advice drop me a line !

    exhaust valves are actually made up of a different metallurgical compound to cope with the turbo and higher exhaust gas temperatures, you would be better off fitting a 200 tdi !!

    sort out the o rings first, and then pressure test again, look at back of cylinder heads to check that you have not got any coolant leaking out of the head gaskets and running down the back of the block when it is parked up cold !
