300 tdi - wont start when turning key but will bump

If the starter is turning the engine over but not starting it could be glow plugs or injection timing also. Sometimes without the glow plugs it doesn't get hot enough to start. And also if for some reason your timing has skipped a tooth or is out slightly it can cause this same issue tho...

Am I allowed out to play now?

Ye there are a lot if variations. 24 spline shafts should be stronger but the cv joints are weaker so instead of breaking a shaft/diff the cv goes lol. Kind of better in a way as its easier and cheaper to fix a cv. Mark

    disco rear arches

Non structural so I can't see any reason for it to fail. Why not go to your local mot station and explain what your going to do and ask if they would fail it. Mark

Am I allowed out to play now?

Your ? Against the splines relates to how many splines each halfshaft has where it enters the diff. You get 10 spline and 24 spline. Have a search and you will find loads of info on them. Cheers mark

    diff lock stuck

If it won't move left its clearly an issue so either try soaking it with penetrating oil for a few days to see if it moves or strip it all apart and clesn and oil it. Also use a pair of grips to operate the small lever that sticks out the top of the transfer box to see if it rotates as it can...

    Steering alignment.

I use a straight piece of wood and hold it against the front wheel, keep adjusting the track rod until both wheels point in line with the rear wheels. Then you can adjust the front Bar on the steering box by keeping the front wheels in line with back wheels and turning the bar allowing it to...

    Advice needed Disco 300tdi

There is no dead certain way to tell other than taking it out but the most common difference is take the wheels off and if the stub shaft has a domed head on it around 30mm deep it is 10 spline. And if it has a pretty flat face with a lump in the middle it is 24 spline. It could be a diff...

It is not possible to bleed the clutch

If your having this much trouble there must be a part at fault. I've bled quite a few 200 and 300 tdi clutches without an issue both manually pumping pedal and tightening and loosening nipple and also with an eezibleed. Think it's time to start swapping parts. Mark

    Swivel shackel

As said above they don't weld on. You just drill a hole. They are pushed through from behind and a circlip stops them falling out backward then you bolt on the shackle.

300tdi no power on start up

Try running a short bit fuel hose from a Gerry can of diesel to the injection pump. Then run it and see if you are getting any air, my guess will be the air will stop and that you are drawing air somewhere along the furling system. Cheers mark

    300tdi doing my head in

Sender is the most common thing for this issue. Best way to check fueling is to get a litre of diesel in a Gerry can and run a bit if fuel hose straight from the injector pump into the Gerry can. Just jam it in the engine bay somewhere. Them start the car and try revving it. That will rule out...

It is not possible to bleed the clutch

I'm 99% sure it's impossible on a 200tdi but is the clutch in the right way? One of my friends fitted a clutch on a discovery ( I know not very helpful!) before and he put it in the wrong way and you could only get half a clutch. Ended up having to redo the job. In fact I think I know someone...

D1 300 Tdi Black Smoke, Help please.

I had a p38 2.5dse. The timing chain stretched in it causing the pump timing to be off and it had a crazy amount of thick black smoke coming out it. I would be checking your pump timing first. Then for a leaking or failed injector if the pumps set properly.

    i've searched

Not sure about a disco but on other cars you leave it connected to stop any warning lights or fault codes.

Need help my landy will not start!!!

Just need to phone around suppliers. Probably better sticking a new one in. You can also test if it is the solenoid by using a jumper wire to power the starter direct. Cheers

    Interesting Insurance Quote

You should try putting quotes in saying he has done the "pass plus" course. You can't fail it, it usually costs around £150 to do but saves a lot on insurance costs. Cheers mark

Need help my landy will not start!!!

Not sure about relay sparking but it sounds like the starter solenoid could be on its way out. Not too awkward to change. Mark

    Discovery 300 Tdi Problem!

Get someone to start the car and stick your hand Infront of the exhaust. If its steam (white snoke/water moisture) then your hand should feel moist. If its bone dry then it's smoke and will probably smell of oil.

    Bleeding brakes !!!

I hadn't heard of it before until I started reading up about it, I have a new Renault trafic and noticed the pedal creep when sitting at trafic lights etc after reading up about it I've noticed that I was just putting far too much force on the pedal for the brake effort needed to hold the van. I...

    Intermittantly dies

As said above sounds like a problem with the stop solenoid on your fuel pump. Hopefully just a bad connection.
